Matthew Gospel_Chapter 5

When Jesus saw these many people, he went up the mountain and sat down. His disciples came to him.

He spoke up and taught them a lesson, saying,

Blessed are the humble, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to them.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will receive comfort.

Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are those who are hungry and thirsty for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.

Blessed are those who show mercy, for they will receive mercy.

Blessed are the pure hearted, for they shall see God.

Blessed are those who bring peace, for they shall be called the sons of God.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.

If anyone insults you, persecutes you, and fabricates all kinds of bad words against you because of me, then you are blessed.

Be joyful and joyful, for your reward in heaven is great. In the same way, people persecuted your prophets before you.

You are the salt of the world. If salt loses its flavor, how can it be called salty again? It will be useless in the future, but it will be thrown outside and trampled on by others.

You are the light of the world. A city built on a mountain cannot be hidden.

When a person lights a lamp, they do not place it under the bushel, but on a lampstand to illuminate the whole household.

Let your light also shine in this way before men, so that they may see your good deeds and give glory to your Father in heaven.

Don’t expect me to abolish the law and prophets. I’m not here to scrap, I’m here to fulfill.

I tell you the truth, even when heaven and earth are abolished, not a single stroke of the law shall be abolished, but all shall be fulfilled.

So whoever abolishes this commandment and teaches others to do so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever follows this commandment and teaches others to do it will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

I tell you, if your righteousness is inferior to that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

You have heard a command from the ancients, saying, Do not kill, and saying, Whoever kills will inevitably be judged.

But I tell you, anyone who is angry with their brothers will inevitably be judged. (There is an ancient scroll adding five characters without reason under the word “fan”) Anyone who curses his brother as a Raga will inevitably be judged by the guild. Anyone who curses their brothers for being demonic cannot avoid the fire of hell.

So when you offer gifts at the altar, if you remember your brothers harboring resentment towards you,

Leave the gift in front of the altar, go and reconcile with the brothers first, and then come and offer the gift.

You accuse your opponent who is still on the way, so hurry up and rest with him. I’m afraid he will send you to the judge, who will deliver you to the yamen and you will be imprisoned.

I tell you the truth, if you haven’t paid off a penny, you can’t come out of there.

You have heard the saying, Do not commit adultery.

But I tell you, anyone who sees a woman and has lustful thoughts has already committed adultery with her in their heart.

If your right eye causes you to fall, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better to lose one body in a hundred than to throw one body into hell.

If your right hand makes you fall, cut it off and throw it away. It is better to lose one body in a hundred than to let one’s whole body go down to hell.

There is also a saying that if a man divorces his wife, he should give her a certificate of divorce.

But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, unless it is for the sake of lust, has made her an adulteress. If a man marries this divorced woman, he also commits adultery.

And you have heard a command from the ancients, saying, Do not swear back, but keep your oath to the Lord.

But I tell you, you cannot swear anything, you cannot swear by heaven, because heaven is the seat of God.

Do not swear by the ground, for the ground is his footstool. Do not swear by Jerusalem, for Jerusalem is the city of the great king.

Do not swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair turn black or white.

Your words, yes, just say yes, no, just say no. If we say more, it comes from that evil one. (Or as coming out of evil)

You have heard the saying, “Eye for eye, tooth for tooth.”.

I just tell you not to oppose evil people. Someone hit your right face, even turn your left face and let him hit you.

Someone wants to sue you and take your inner garment, even your outer garment.

If someone forces you to walk one mile, you can walk two miles with them.

If you have any requests, give them to him. There are those who have borrowed money from you, so you cannot refuse.

You have heard the saying, Love your neighbors and hate your enemies.

I just tell you to love your enemies. Pray for those who persecute you.

In this way, you can become the son of your Heavenly Father. Because he called the sun to shine on the good and on the evil, and to rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous.

If you only love the person who loves you. What rewards are there? Isn’t tax collectors also doing the same?

If you only greet your brothers, what are your strengths compared to others? Isn’t it okay for foreigners to do the same?

So you must be perfect, just like your Heavenly Father.
