Acts of the Apostles_Chapter 24

After five days, the high priest Ananias, along with several elders and a debater named Titus, came down and accused Paul to the governor.

When Paul was brought up, Titus accused him, saying,

Sir Philip, we have enjoyed great peace through you, and the evils of this country have been corrected through your foresight. We are grateful anytime, anywhere.

Afraid of saying too much, you may find it annoying, but please be tolerant and listen to us for a few words.

We see this person, like a plague, who incites all the Jews in the world to cause chaos, and is also a leader in the Nazarene Church.

He even wants the temple to be unclean. We have caught him. There are ancient scrolls here that require questioning according to our law.

Unexpectedly, the commander Lycia came and forcefully took him from our hands, ordering his accusers to come to you.

You can inquire about him yourself and know everything we accuse him of.

And all the Jews also accused him, saying, Truly this is the case.

The governor nodded and called for Paul to speak, and he said, “I know you have been in this country for many years, so I am willing to defend myself.”.

You can inquire and know that there have been only twelve days since I went to Jerusalem to worship until today.

They did not see me arguing or stirring up crowds in the temple, in the synagogue, or in the city.

What they are telling me now cannot be confirmed to you.

But there is one thing that I acknowledge to you, which is the way they call heresy, according to which I serve the God of my ancestors and believe in those who are lawful and all that is recorded in the Book of Prophets.

And through God, I hope that the dead, whether good or evil, will be resurrected, even they themselves have this hope.

Therefore, I encourage myself to always have a conscience of no loss towards God and people.

After a few years, I went up with donations and offerings to help my country.

When I was offering, they saw that I was already clean in the temple and did not gather or make a fuss. There were only a few Jews from Asia.

If they have anything to accuse me of, they should come to you to accuse me.

Even if it is not, these people can also explain to themselves if they see that I am standing in front of the guild and there is something wrong with me.

Even if there is one, it is just one sentence: I stand among them and loudly say, ‘I am being tried before you today for the resurrection of the dead.’

Philip, who had a thorough understanding of this way, stuttered them and said, “Let us wait for the captain Lycia to come down, and I will judge your affairs.”.

So he ordered the centurion to guard Paul and treat him kindly, without stopping his relatives and friends from coming to provide him.

A few days later, Felix and his wife Tusilah, a Jewish woman, arrived together and called for Paul to speak about the faith in Christ Jesus.

Paul talked about righteousness, moderation, and future judgment, but Felix was greatly afraid and said, “Go for now, and I will call you back when I am convenient.”.

Philip also hoped that Paul would give him money, so he repeatedly called him to come and discuss with him.

After two years, Bochius Festus took over the position of Philip. Philip wanted to please the Jews, so he left Paul in prison.
