Of the families of Manasseh, the son of Joseph, there were the great grandson of Manasseh, the great grandson of Machir, the grandson of Gilead, and the daughter of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher. Their names were Marah, Noah, Horah, Micah, and Tirzah. They come here,

Standing at the entrance of the tent of meeting, in front of Moses, Eleazar the priest, and all the leaders and the whole assembly, he said,

Our father died in the wilderness. He did not gather with Korah to attack the Lord, but died in his own sin. He doesn’t have a son either.

Why remove our father’s name from his family because he has no son? Please divide our inheritance among our father’s brothers.

So Moses presented their case before the Lord.

The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

The daughter of Silofehas is right. You must divide the land among their father’s brothers as an inheritance. To attribute their father’s inheritance to them.

Speak also to the Israelites, saying, If a man dies without a son, he shall give his inheritance to his daughter.

If he has no daughter, he shall give his inheritance to his brothers.

If he has no brothers, then he shall give his inheritance to his father’s brothers.

If his father has no brothers, he shall give his inheritance to the nearest relatives of his family, and he shall inherit it. This shall be a law and a law for the children of Israel, as the Lord commanded Moses.

The Lord said to Moses, “Go up to Mount Abarim and see the land I have given to the Israelites.”.

After seeing it, you will also return to your people, just like your brother Aaron.

Because you rebelled against my command in the wilderness of Zin, when the congregation was quarreling, and did not sanctify me in the land of surging water in the sight of the congregation. (This water is the water of Kadesmireba in the wilderness of Zin.)

Moses said to the Lord,

May the God of the Spirit of all nations, the Lord, appoint a man to rule over the congregation,

You can go in and out in front of them, and you can guide them, so that the congregation of the Lord is not like a flock without a shepherd.

The Lord said to Moses, “Joshua, the son of Nun, has the Holy Spirit in his heart. Bring him and place your hands on his head.”,

Make him stand before Eleazar the priest and all the congregation, and charge him,

And give him a portion of your honor, so that all the congregation of Israel may obey him.

He will stand before Eleazar the priest. Eleazar will inquire for Urim before the Lord based on his judgment. He and all the congregation of Israel shall go in and out according to Eleazar’s command.

So Moses brought Joshua as the Lord had commanded, and made him stand before Eleazar the priest and all the congregation.

He placed his hand on his head and instructed him, as the Lord had said through Moses.
