Min Shu Ji_Chapter 1

On the first day of the second month in the second year after the Israelites left Egypt, the Lord spoke to Moses in the tent of meeting in the wilderness of Sinai, saying,

You shall calculate all the males according to the number of their families, clans, and names of the entire Israelite assembly.

You and Aaron shall number all those in Israel who are able to go out to war from twenty years old and above, according to their armies.

One person from each tribe shall be the head of their own tribe to assist you.

Their names belong to Reuben, including Elizur son of Shedeur.

Of Simeon, Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai.

Of Judah, there was Nashun the son of Amminadab.

Of Issachar, Nethanel the son of Suab.

Of Zebulun, Eliab the son of Helon.

Of the children of Joseph, of Ephraim, Elishama the son of Ammihud. Of Manasseh, Gamaliel the son of Bedazzur.

Of Benjamin, Abidan the son of Gideoni.

Of Dan, Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai.

Of Asher, Pagiel the son of Oram.

Of Gad, Eliasaph son of Deuel.

Of Naphtali, Ahira the son of Enan.

These are all chosen from the assembly, each as the leader of their own tribe, and they are the commanders of the Israelite army.

So Moses and Aaron took these named men with them,

On the first day of February, gather the entire assembly. The congregation recounted their genealogy, from twenty years old and above, according to their families, clans, and the number of names.

As the Lord commanded Moses, he numbered them in the wilderness of Sinai.

The eldest son of Israel, the descendants of the children of Reuben, according to the number of their families, clans, and names, from twenty years old and above, all the males who were able to go out to war were numbered 46500.

The descendants of Simeon, according to their families, clans, and names, were a total of 59300 males from twenty years old and above who were able to go out to war.

The descendants of Gad, according to their families, clans, and names, from twenty years old and above, all those who were able to go out to war were numbered, totaling 45000650.

The descendants of Judah, according to the number of their families, clans, and names, from twenty years old and above, all those who were able to go out to war were numbered, totaling 74600.

The descendants of the children of Issachar, according to their families, clans, and names, were numbered from twenty years old and above, and all those who were able to go out to war were fifty-four thousand and four hundred.

The descendants of Zebulun, according to their families, clans, and names, all those who were able to go out to war from twenty years old and above were numbered, totaling 57400.

The descendants of Joseph, belonging to the descendants of Ephraim, were numbered according to their families, clans, and names. From twenty years old and above, all those who were able to go out to war were numbered, totaling 40500.

The descendants of Manasseh, according to their families, clans, and names, from twenty years old and above, all those who were able to go out to war were numbered, totaling 32000.

The descendants of Benjamin, according to their families, clans, and names, all those who were able to go out to war from twenty years old and above were numbered, totaling 35400.

But the descendants, according to their families, clans, and names, from twenty years old and above, all those who were able to go out to war were numbered, totaling 62700.

The descendants of Asher, according to the number of their families, clans, and names, from twenty years old and above, all those who were able to go out to war were numbered, totaling 41500.

The descendants of Naphtali, according to their families, clans, and names, from twenty years old and above, all those who were able to go out to war were numbered, totaling 53400.

These are the ones counted, which Moses, Aaron, and the twelve leaders of Israel numbered. These twelve individuals each represent their respective clans.

So all the Israelites who were numbered, according to their families, from twenty years old and above, were able to go out to war. The total number of those who were numbered was sixty-three thousand five hundred and fifty.

But the Levites were not among them according to their tribes,

For the Lord spake to Moses, saying,

But you shall not count the tribe of Levi, nor shall you calculate their total number among the Israelites.

As long as the Levites are appointed to oversee the tabernacle of the Testament and its utensils, they belong to the tabernacle. They shall carry the tabernacle and its utensils, and carry out the work of the tabernacle, and camp around it.

When the tabernacle is about to move forward, the Levites shall dismantle it. When setting up the support, the Levites must erect it. Outsiders who come near will be put to death.

The Israelites shall set up their tents according to their armies, each to his own camp and each to his own standard.

But the Levites shall camp around the tabernacle of the Testimony, lest wrath come upon the congregation of Israel. The Levites must also keep the tabernacle of the Testimony.

The Israelites did this. And they did as the Lord commanded Moses.
