On the fifteenth day of the first month, which was the day after the Passover, the Israelites set out from Rameses and went out fearlessly in front of all the Egyptians.

At that time, the Egyptians were burying their eldest son, whom the Lord had killed among them. The Lord has also corrupted their God.

The Lord spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan River, opposite Jericho, saying,

Command the Israelites, saying, When you cross the Jordan River and enter the land of Canaan,

Drive out all the inhabitants of that place from before you, destroy all their carved stone images and all their cast idols, and demolish all their high places.

Take that land and dwell in it, for I have given it to you as an inheritance.

You shall cast lots according to your families and inherit the land. If there are many people, we should allocate more industries to them. Those with fewer people should allocate less industry to them. To whom the land is given, it shall belong. You shall inherit according to the tribes of your clan.

If you do not drive out the inhabitants of that land, the inhabitants you have left behind will be thorns in your eyes and thorns under your ribs, causing trouble to you in the land where you live.

And as I have always intended to do to them, I will do the same to you.
