Matthew Gospel_Chapter 26

After Jesus had finished speaking all these words, he said to his disciples, You know that…

After Jesus had finished speaking all these words, he said to his disciples,

You know that in two days it will be the Passover, and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.

At that time, the chief priests and the elders of the people gathered in the courtyard called Caiaphas by the high priest.

Everyone discussed using trickery to capture Jesus and kill him.

Just saying that it is not allowed on the day of the festival, as it may cause chaos among the people.

Jesus grew up in Bethany in the house of Simon, a leper,

A woman came with a precious jade jar of ointment and poured it on Jesus’ head while he was sitting at the banquet.

When the disciples saw it, they were very displeased and said, “Why is this waste so useless?”?

This ointment can be sold for a lot of money to help the poor.

Jesus saw their intention and said, “Why is it difficult for this woman?”? What she did to me is a beautiful thing.

Because poor people are always with you. It’s just that you don’t often have me.

She poured this ointment on me for my burial.

I tell you the truth, no matter where this gospel is preached throughout the world, you will also recount what this woman has done as a memory.

At that moment, one of the twelve disciples, named Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priest and said,

How much money are you willing to give me when I hand him over to you. They gave him thirty yuan.

From then on, he sought an opportunity to deliver Jesus to them.

On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, his disciples came and asked Jesus, “Where do you want us to prepare for you when you eat the Passover?”?

Jesus said, Go into the city, go to someone, and say to him, Master, my time is coming soon. My disciples and I will keep the Passover at your house.

As Jesus commanded, the disciples went and prepared the Passover feast.

In the evening, Jesus and the twelve disciples sat at the table.

As he was eating, Jesus said, Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.

They were very sorrowful and asked him one by one, “Lord, is it me?”?

Jesus answered and said, He who dips his hand in a plate with me will betray me.

The Son of Man shall surely pass away, as it is written of him: but woe to those who sell the Son of Man. It would be better if that person were not born in this world.

Judas, who betrayed Jesus, asked him, “Rabbi, is it me?”? Jesus said, You are right.

As they were eating, Jesus took bread and blessed it. He broke it open and handed it to his disciples, saying, Take it and eat, this is my body.

Pick up the cup again, thank you, hand it to them, and say, you all drink this.

Because this is the blood of my covenant, which is shed for many to be forgiven.

But I tell you, from now on, I will no longer drink this grape juice until the day when I drink new wine with you in my father’s kingdom.

They sang a poem and went out to Mount Olive.

At that time, Jesus said to them, Tonight you will all fall because of me. Because it is written in the scripture that I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.

But after I am resurrected, I will go to Galilee before you.

Peter said, Although everyone falls for your sake, I will never fall.

Jesus said, Truly I tell you, before the rooster crows tonight, you will deny me three times.

Peter said, Even if I must die with you, I cannot deny you. All the disciples said so.

Jesus and his disciples came to a place called Gethsemane and said to them, “Sit here while I go over there to pray.”.

So he took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee with him, and became very sad and extremely distressed.

And he said to them, My heart is very sad, almost dying. Wait here and watch with me.

He walked a little further and knelt down on the ground, praying, saying, “My father, if it is possible, please let this cup leave me.”. However, don’t follow my instructions, just follow your instructions.

When he came to his disciples and saw them asleep, he said to Peter, “What’s wrong? Can’t you watch with me for a while?”?

Be vigilant and pray, so as not to fall into temptation. Your soul is willing, but your body is weak.

The second time he went and prayed, saying, “My father, if this cup cannot leave me, I will drink it, and may your will be fulfilled.”.

I came to see them sleeping again because their eyes were tired.

Jesus left them again. The words spoken during the third prayer remained the same as before.

So he came to his disciples and said to them, “Now go back to sleep and rest.”. The time has come for the Son of Man to be sold into the hands of sinners.

Get up, let’s go. Look, the person who sold me is approaching.

As he spoke, Judas, one of the twelve disciples, came with him, along with many others, wielding swords and sticks, from the chief priests and elders of the people.

The one who betrayed Jesus gave them a secret signal, saying, Whoever I kiss is him. You can hold onto him.

Judas immediately went to Jesus and said, Greet Rabbi. Just kiss him.

Jesus said to him, Friend, do what you have come to do. So those people came forward and grabbed Jesus with their hands.

A man who was following Jesus reached out and drew a sword, and struck a servant of the high priest, cutting off one of his ears.

Jesus said to him, Put the sword in its sheath. Anyone who uses a knife will die by the sword.

Do you think I can’t beg my father to send me twelve battalions of angels now?

If that’s the case, how can it be fulfilled if the scripture says that things must be like this?

At that time, Jesus said to the crowd, “Are you coming out with swords and sticks to take me like taking a thief?”? I sit in the temple every day teaching, but you did not take me.

But all these things were accomplished to fulfill the words of the prophets. At that moment, all the disciples left him and fled.

Those who took Jesus brought him to Caiaphas the high priest. The literati and elders have already gathered there.

Peter followed Jesus from a distance until he entered the courtyard of the high priest, and sat with the attendants to see what was going on.

The chief priests and the entire council searched for false testimony and accused Jesus to put him to death.

Although many people have come to testify falsely, there is no conclusive evidence. Two people came forward to say,

This person once said, “I can demolish the temple of God and build it again within three days.”.

The high priest stood up and said to Jesus, “Do you not answer anything?”? What are these people testifying against you?

But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, “As the living God, I make you swear to tell us whether you are the Son of God, Christ or not.”.

Jesus said to him, You are right. However, I tell you that later on, you will see the Son of Man sitting on the right side of the Mighty One, descending on the clouds of heaven.

The high priest tore open his clothes and said, “He has spoken blasphemy. Why do we need any more witnesses?”? Now you have all heard this blasphemy.

What are your opinions? They replied, ‘He’s damn.’.

They spat on his face and punched him. He also used his palm to hit him, saying,

Christ, you are a prophet, tell us who struck you.

Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard when a maid came to him and said, “You have always been with Jesus the Galilean.”.

But Peter denied it in front of everyone, saying, I do not know what you are saying.

And as she went out to the door, another maid saw him and said to the people there, This man is also with Jesus the Nazarene.

Peter denied it again and swore, saying, I do not recognize that person.

Not long after, the person standing next to Peter came forward and said, “You are really one of them.”. Your accent has exposed you.

Peter cursed and swore, saying, I do not recognize that person. The rooster immediately crowed.

Peter remembered what Jesus had said: Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times. He went out to cry bitterly.
