Gospel of Luke_Chapter 4
Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit and returned from the Jordan. The Holy Spirit led him into the wilderness and for forty days he was tempted by the devil.
I didn’t eat anything during those days. When the days are over, he becomes hungry.
The devil said to him, If you are the son of God, command this stone to become food.
Jesus answered and said, It is written in the scripture that man does not live by food alone, but by all the words that come out of God’s mouth
The devil led him up a high mountain again, and in an instant pointed out all the kingdoms of the world to him.
Tell him, ‘I will give you all this power and glory.’. Because this was originally delivered to me, I will give it to whoever I am willing to give it to.
If you bow down before me, it will all belong to you.
Jesus said, It is written, ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’.
The devil brought him to Jerusalem and made him stand on the top of the temple, saying to him, If you are the son of God, jump down from here.
Because it is written in the scripture that the Lord commanded his messengers to protect you.
They need to hold you with their hands to prevent your feet from touching the stone.
Jesus said to him, The scripture says, Do not test the Lord your God.
After the devil had finished all kinds of temptations, he temporarily left Jesus.
Jesus returned to Galilee full of the power of the Holy Spirit, and his reputation spread throughout the four corners.
He taught in various synagogues, and everyone praised him.
Jesus came to Nazareth, where he grew up. On the Sabbath, according to his usual rules, he entered the synagogue and stood up to read the Bible.
Someone handed him the book of the prophet Isaiah, and he opened it and found a place where it was written, saying,
The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor. Send me to report on the release of the captives and the sight of the blind, so that those who are oppressed may be set free,
Report the jubilee of God’s acceptance of people.
So he rolled up the book, returned it to the deacon, and sat down. The people in the hall were all fixed on him.
Jesus said to them, Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your ears.
Everyone praised him and marveled at the words of kindness that came out of his mouth. And he said, Isn’t this Joseph’s son?
Jesus said to them, “You will quote this proverb to me, ‘Doctor, heal yourself.'”. We have heard of what you have done in Capernaum, and you should also do it in your own hometown.
And he said, Truly I tell you, there is no prophet who is accepted in his own country.
To be honest with you, during the time of Elijah, the heavens were closed for three years and six months, and there was a great famine throughout the land. At that time, there were many widows in Israel.
Elijah was not sent to any of them, only to Zarepha in Sidon, a widow.
During the time of the prophet Elisha, there were many lepers in Israel. But there was none among them except Naaman from Syria who was cleansed.
The people in the synagogue were filled with anger upon hearing these words.
They got up and drove him out of the city. Their city was built on a mountain, and they took him to a cliff to push him down.
But he walked straight through them and passed by.
Jesus went down to Capernaum, a city in Galilee, and taught everyone on the Sabbath.
They were amazed by his teachings because there was power in his words.
There was a person in the auditorium, possessed by the spirit of a filthy ghost, shouting loudly,
Alas, Jesus of Nazareth, what have we to do with you? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God.
Jesus rebuked him, saying, Keep quiet, come out of this man. The ghost knocked the man down among the crowd and came out, but did not harm him.
Everyone was surprised and asked each other, “What is this truth?”? Because he used his authority and power to command the evil spirits, and they came out.
So the reputation of Jesus spread throughout the surrounding areas.
Jesus left the synagogue and entered Simon’s house. Ximen’s mother-in-law suffered from severe fever. Someone begged Jesus for her.
Jesus stood beside her, rebuking the fever, and the fever subsided. She immediately got up to serve them.
At sunset, anyone who has a sick person, regardless of what illness they cause, will be brought to Jesus. Jesus placed his hands on each of them and healed them.
And demons came out from many people, shouting, saying, You are the son of God. Jesus rebuked them and forbade them to speak, because they knew he was the Christ.
At dawn, Jesus came out and walked into the wilderness. Everyone went to find him, and when they arrived at him, they wanted to keep him and not let him leave them.
But Jesus said to them, I must also preach the gospel of the kingdom of God in other cities. Because I was sent for this purpose.
So Jesus preached in the synagogues of Galilee.
