Genesis_Chapter 16
Abram’s wife Sarai did not give birth to children for him. Sarai had a maid named Hagar, who was an Egyptian.
Sarai said to Abram, “The Lord has made me unable to bear children.”. Please have sex with my maid, or I can have a child because of her. Abram obeyed Sarai’s words.
So Abram’s wife Sarai gave her maid Hagar the Egyptian to her husband as a concubine. At that time, Abram had been living in Canaan for ten years.
Abram slept with Hagar, and Hagar became pregnant. She looked down on her mother-in-law when she saw she was pregnant.
Sarai said to Abram, ‘I have suffered because of you.’. I placed my maid in your arms, and she looked down on me when she saw she was pregnant. May the Lord judge between us.
Abram said to Sarai, “Your servant is under your command, and you can treat her as you please.”. Sarai treated her harshly, and she fled from Sarai’s presence.
The angel of the Lord met her by the spring of water on the way to Shur in the wilderness,
Say to her, Hagar, Sarai’s maid, where are you from and where are you going. Hagar said, I have escaped from my mistress Sarai.
The angel of the Lord said to her, ‘Go back to your master’s mother and submit to her hands.’.
And he said, I will make your descendants extremely numerous, even countless.
And he said, You are now pregnant and will give birth to a son, and you may name him Ishmael, because the Lord has heard of your suffering. (Ishmael means what God heard)
He is like a wild donkey in his conduct. His hands will attack people, and people’s hands will also attack him. He will dwell on the east side of his brothers.
Hagar called the Lord, who spoke to her, the God who cares for people. So, do I also see the one who cares about me here?
So this well is called Beerla Haile. This well is located between Kadesh and Barre.
Later, Hagar gave birth to a son for Abram. Abraham named him Ishmael.
When Hagar gave birth to Ishmael to Abram, Abram was eighty-six years old.
