Genesis_Chapter 31
Jacob heard the sons of Laban say, “Jacob has taken away all that our father has, and through our father, he has obtained all this glory.”.
Jacob saw that Laban’s expression was not as good as before.
The Lord said to Jacob, “Go back to your ancestors and your father’s land, to your relatives, and I will be with you.”.
And Jacob sent messengers, calling Rachel and Leah to come to the flock in the field,
Tell them, I see your father’s expression is not as good as before. But my father’s God has always been with me.
You also know that I have done my best to serve your father.
Your father deceived me and changed my wages ten times. However, God does not allow him to harm me.
If he says, ‘Some of it belongs to you as wages, and all the sheep born have some.’. If he says, ‘Those with stripes will be your wages, and all the offspring of the flock will have stripes.’.
So God took your father’s livestock and gave them to me.
When the sheep were cooperating, in my dream, I looked up and saw that the male sheep of the jumping ewe had patterns, spots, and spots.
The angel of God called out to me in that dream, saying, Jacob, and I said, I am here.
He said, ‘Look up and see that the male sheep that jump on the ewe have stripes, spots, and spots.’. I have seen everything that Van Laban has done to you.
I am the God of Bethel. You poured oil on the pillars there and made a wish to me. Get up now, leave this place, and go back to your place.
Rachel and Leah answered Jacob, “Is there still any portion for us in our father’s house?”? Do we still have our industry?
Aren’t we treated as outsiders by him? Because he sold us and swallowed our value.
All the wealth that God has taken from our father is ours and our children. Whatever God commands you now, go and do it.
Jacob got up and caused his sons and wives to ride on camels,
He also took all the livestock and goods he had obtained in Paddan Aram and went to his father Isaac in the land of Canaan.
At that time, Laban went to shear wool, and Rachel stole the deity statue from his father’s house.
Jacob stole without telling Laban the Arameans,
Just run away with everything. He got up and crossed the river, heading towards Mount Gilead.
On the third day, someone told Laban that Jacob had fled.
Laban led his brothers to chase after him, and after seven days, he caught up on Mount Gilead.
At night, God came to Laban the Arameans and said to him in a dream, “Be careful not to say anything good or bad to Jacob.”.
Laban caught up with Jacob. Jacob pitched his tent on the mountain. Laban and his brothers also pitched their tents on Mount Gilead.
Laban said to Jacob, “What have you done?”? You stole it behind my back and took my daughters away, as if they were taken captive with a sword.
Why do you secretly run away, steal, and not tell me, so that I can be happy, sing, beat drums, and play the piano to send you back?
I am not allowed to kiss my grandson and daughter. What you have done is truly foolish.
I have the power to harm you in my hands, but your father’s God said to me last night, ‘Be careful not to say anything good or bad to Jacob.’.
Now that you miss your father’s house and have to go, why did you steal my statue again?
Jacob replied to Laban, “Perhaps you will take your daughter away from me, so I will flee.”.
As for your deity, whoever you find it with will not be allowed to live. In front of our brothers, recognize what is yours with me and take it. Originally, Jacob did not know that Rachel had stolen those gods.
Laban entered the tents of Jacob, Leah, and the two maidservants, but did not find them. So he went out of Leah’s tent and entered Rachel’s tent.
Rachel had already hidden the statue in the camel’s basket and sat on it. Laban searched through the tent but did not touch it
Rachel said to her father, “I am currently unable to stand up in front of you due to my inconvenience. Please do not be angry, my lord.”. In this way, Laban searched for the statue but did not find it.
Jacob rebuked Laban in anger and said, “What have I committed, what sin have I committed, that you have pursued me so quickly?”?
You’ve searched through all my furniture, what did you find? It can be placed in front of you and my brothers, so that they can distinguish between us.
I have been in your house for twenty years, and your mother sheep and mother goats have never given birth. I haven’t eaten the ram in your group.
What was torn by the beast, I didn’t bring it to you, I paid for it myself. Whether it’s day or night, you ask me for anything stolen.
I suffer from dry heat during the day and cold frost at night, unable to sleep with my eyes closed. This is how I often do.
I have been at your house for these twenty years, serving you for fourteen years for your two daughters, serving you for six years for your flock, and you have changed my wages ten times.
If it were not for the God whom my father Isaac feared, or the God of Abraham who was with me, you would surely send me away empty handed now. God saw my suffering and my labor, and he rebuked you last night.
Laban replied to Jacob, “This daughter is my daughter, these children are my children, and these flocks are also my flocks.”. Everything in front of you is mine. What can I do to my daughters and their children today?
Come on, you and I can make a treaty as evidence between us.
Jacob took a stone and erected it as a pillar,
And he said to his brothers, Gather stones together. They made a pile of stones and everyone ate and drank beside them.
Laban called the pile of stones Igalzahadutah, but Jacob called it Kared.
Laban said, Today this pile of stones serves as evidence between us. Therefore, this place is called Jialeide,
Also called Mizpah, he said, May the Lord observe between us after we have parted ways.
If you mistreat my daughter and take another wife besides my daughter, although no one knows, God is a witness between you and me.
Laban said again, “Look at the pile of stones and pillars that I have erected between you and me.”.
This pile of stones serves as evidence, and this pillar also serves as evidence. I will not harm you with this pile of stones. You must not harm me by crossing this pile of stones and pillars.
May the God of Abraham and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge between us. Jacob swore by the God whom his father Isaac feared,
And he offered sacrifices on the mountain, inviting all his brothers to come and eat. They had dinner and then stayed overnight on the mountain.
Laban got up early in the morning, kissed his grandson and daughter, blessed them, and returned to his own place.
