Genesis_Chapter 28
Isaac called Jacob, blessed him, and instructed him not to marry a woman from Canaan.
Get up and go to Padanaram, to the house of your maternal father Bethuel, and marry one of the daughters of your mother’s uncle Laban.
May the Almighty God bless you, so that you may have many children and become a nation,
To bestow upon you and your descendants the blessing promised to Abraham, so that you may inherit the land of your sojourn, which God has given to Abraham.
Isaac sent Jacob away, and he went to Paddan Aram to Laban, the son of Bethuel the Arameans. Laban was the maternal uncle of Jacob and Esau.
When Esau saw that Isaac had already blessed Jacob and sent him to Paddan Aram to marry him, he instructed him not to marry a woman from Canaan,
And when Jacob obeyed his parents and went to Paddan Aram,
Esau knew that his father Isaac did not favor the women of Canaan,
So he went to Ishmael and married Mahalah in addition to his two wives. He is the daughter of Ishmael, the son of Abraham, and the sister of Nebaioth.
Jacob left Beersheba and walked towards Haran.
When they arrived at a place, they stayed there because the sun had set. They picked up a stone from that place and rested it under their head, then lay down and slept there,
I dreamt of a ladder standing on the ground, with its head reaching up to heaven. An angel of God was on the ladder, going up and down.
The Lord stood above the ladder and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham, the God of Isaac.”. I will give you and your descendants the land where you are lying now.
Your descendants will be like the dust and sand of the earth, spreading to the east, west, north, south, and north. All nations on earth will be blessed by you and your descendants.
I am also with you. Wherever you go, I will bless you and bring you back to this land. I will not abandon you until I have fulfilled my promise to you.
Jacob woke up and said, “The Lord is indeed here, but I do not know.”.
And he was afraid, saying, How terrible this place is! This is nothing else, but the temple of God and the gate of heaven.
Jacob got up early in the morning and erected the stone he was resting on as a pillar, pouring oil on it.
He named the place Bethel (meaning temple). But that place was originally called Ruth.
Jacob made a vow, saying, If God be with me, bless me in all my ways, and give me food to eat, and clothing to put on,
Bring me back to my father’s house in peace, and I will make the Lord my God.
The stone that I have erected as a pillar will also be the temple of God, and I will offer you a tenth of everything you give me.
