Exodus_Chapter 19
After the Israelites left Egypt for three months, they came to the wilderness of Sinai.
They left Rephidim and came to the wilderness of Sinai, where they camped at the foot of the mountain.
Moses came to God, and the Lord called out to him from the mountain, saying, Tell the house of Jacob, and say to the children of Israel,
You have all seen what I have done to the Egyptians, and have seen me carrying you on wings like an eagle, bringing you back to me.
Now if you truly obey my voice and keep my covenant, then you will be my people among all the people, for all the earth is mine.
You shall belong to me as a kingdom of priests, a holy nation. You need to tell the Israelites these words.
Moses summoned the elders of the people and presented all the words that the Lord had commanded him before them.
The people all answered with one voice, ‘We will do everything that the Lord has said.’. Moses replied to the Lord the words of the people.
The Lord said to Moses, “I will come to you in a dense cloud, so that the people can hear you and believe in you forever when I speak to you.”. So Moses reported the words of the people to the Lord.
And the Lord said to Moses, Go to the people, sanctify them today and tomorrow, and make them wash their clothes.
Be ready on the third day, for the Lord will come down on Mount Sinai in front of all the people.
Set boundaries for the people around the mountain, and say, Be careful not to go up the mountain or touch its borders. Anyone who touches this mountain will surely be put to death.
Do not touch him with your hands, he will be stoned to death or shot through with arrows, neither man nor beast shall live. They can only come to the root of the mountain when the sound of the horn is prolonged.
Moses went down from the mountain to the people to purify themselves, and they washed their clothes.
He said to the people, Be ready on the third day. Do not approach women.
On the third morning, there was thunder, lightning, and dense clouds on the mountain, and the sound of the horn was loud, causing all the people in the camp to tremble.
Moses led the people out of the camp to meet God, and they all stood at the foot of the mountain.
The whole mountain of Sinai is smoking, because the Lord came down on the mountain in the midst of fire. The smoke from the mountain rises up like a kiln, causing a great earthquake throughout the mountain.
The sound of the horn gradually grew louder and louder, and Moses spoke, and God’s voice answered him.
The Lord came down on the top of Sinai, and the Lord called Moses to go up to the top of the mountain. So Moses went up.
The Lord said to Moses, “Go down and charge the people not to rush over to me and see, or many of them may die.”,
Also consecrate the priests who are close to me, lest I suddenly come out and kill them.
Moses said to the Lord, “The people cannot go up Mount Sinai, because you have instructed us to set boundaries around the mountain and make it holy.”.
The Lord said to him, “Go down, come up with Aaron, but the priests and the people shall not rush up to me, or I may suddenly come out and kill them.”.
So Moses went down to the people and told them.
