God said to Jacob, Get up. Go up to Bethel and stay there. Build an altar there for God, who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.

Jacob said to his family and all those who were with him, ‘Take away the foreign gods among you, and purify yourselves by changing your clothes.’.

We will rise up and go up to Bethel, where I will build an altar to God, who answered my prayers on the day of my trouble and blessed me on my journey.

They handed over the foreign gods and the rings on their ears to Jacob. Jacob hid under the oak tree at Shechem.

They set off on their journey. God caused great fear among the people of the surrounding cities, so they did not pursue Jacob’s sons.

So Jacob and all those who were with him came to Luz in the land of Canaan, which is Bethel.

He built an altar there and named it Elbetel, because God appeared to him there when he fled from his brother.

Deborah, Rebekah’s wet nurse, died and was buried under an oak tree below Bethel. That tree is called Aaron Baku.

When Jacob returned from Padanaram, God appeared to him again and blessed him,

And say to him, Your name is Jacob; from now on, do not call yourself Jacob, but Israel. So he changed his name to Israel.

And God said to him, I am the Almighty God. You shall have many children, and one nation and many nations shall be born from you, and kings shall come out of you.

I will give the land that I have given to Abraham and Isaac to you and your descendants.

God ascended from the place where he spoke with Jacob.

Jacob erected a stone pillar there and poured wine and oil on it.

Jacob named the place Bethel.

They set out from Bethel, and there was still some way to go before Ephrath. Rachel was in labor and it was very difficult.

At a difficult time, the midwife said to her, “Don’t be afraid, you will have another son.”.

When she was about to die and her soul was about to leave, she named her son Benoni. But his father named him Benjamin.

Rachel died and was buried by the roadside of Ephraim. Ephraim is Bethlehem.

Jacob erected a tombstone on her grave, which is Rachel’s tombstone and remains to this day.

Israel set out and set up a tent on the other side of Eder.

When Israel was living in that land, Reuben went to sleep with his father’s concubine Bilhah, and Israel heard of it. Jacob had twelve sons in total.

The sons of Leah were Reuben, Jacob’s eldest son, as well as Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.

The sons of Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin.

The children of Rachel’s maid Bilhah were Dan and Naphtali.

The sons of Zepa, Leah’s maid, were Gad and Asher. This is the son born to Jacob in Padanaram.

Jacob came to his father Isaac and went to Mamre in Kiriath Aba, where Abraham and Isaac resided. Kiriath Aba is Hebron.

Isaac lived a total of one hundred and eighty years.

Isaac was old and satisfied with his days, but he passed away and returned to his people. His two sons Esau, Jacob buried him.
