After these things, God wanted to test Abraham and called out to him, saying, Abraham, and he said, I am here.
God said, Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moria. On the mountain that I will show you, offer him as a burnt offering.
Abraham got up early in the morning, prepared his donkey, and took his two servants and his son Isaac with him. He also chopped the wood for the burnt offering and got up to go to the place God had instructed him.
On the third day, Abraham lifted his eyes and saw the place from a distance.
Abraham said to his servants, “Wait here with the donkey, and I and the boy will go there to worship and come back to you.”.
Abraham placed the firewood for the burnt offering on his son Isaac, and held a fire and a sword in his hand. So the two of them walked together.
Isaac said to his father Abraham, ‘Father,’ Abraham said, ‘My son, I am here.’. Isaac said, “Look, there is fire and wood, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”?
Abraham said, My son, God will prepare himself a lamb for a burnt offering. So the two of them walked together.
They arrived at the place God had instructed, and Abraham built an altar there, arranged the firewood, bound his son Isaac, and placed it on the firewood of the altar.
Abraham reached out his hand and took a sword to kill his son.
The angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, saying, Abraham, Abraham, and he said, Here I am.
The angel said, Do not lay your hands on this boy. Don’t harm him at all. Now I know you fear God. Because you did not leave your son, your only son, for me.
Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, only to find a ram with its horns fastened in a dense small tree. So Abraham took the ram and offered it as a burnt offering in place of his son.
Abraham named that place Jehovah Elek (meaning Jehovah will prepare it), and to this day it is said that there will be preparation on the mountain of Jehovah.
The angel of the Lord called out to Abraham from heaven the second time, saying,
And the Lord said, Since you have done this and have not left your son, your only son, I have sworn by myself, saying,
Regarding blessings, I will bestow great blessings upon you. As for your descendants, I will make them many, like the stars in heaven and the sand by the sea. Your descendants will receive the gates of their enemies,
And all nations on earth will be blessed by your descendants, because you have obeyed my voice.
So Abraham returned to his servants and they got up together to go to Beersheba, and Abraham stayed in Beersheba.
After this, someone told Abraham, ‘How many sons did Micah give birth to your brother Nahor?’,
The eldest son was Uz, and his brothers were Buz and Kemuel, the father of Aram,
And Gezer, Hazor, Bidah, Yilah, and Bethuli (Bethuli gave birth to Rebekah).
These eight people were all born to Abraham’s brother Nahor by Micah.
Nahor’s concubine’s name was Rumah, and she gave birth to Tebal, Gahan, Tahad, and Maacah.
