The Book of Daniel_Chapter 1
In the third year of the reign of King Jehoiakim of Judah, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it.
The Lord handed over King Jehoiakim of Judah and a portion of the vessels in the temple of God to him. He brought this vessel to the land of Shinah, brought it into the temple of his God, and placed it in the treasury of his God.
The king commanded Ashpenah, the chief eunuch, to bring in a few people from the royal families and nobles of the Israelites,
Those who are young and without disabilities, beautiful in appearance, knowledgeable and wise in all kinds of knowledge, and capable of standing in the palace, shall be taught the writing and language of Chaldea.
The king appointed to give them a portion of their food and wine every day, and to support them for three years. After three years, so that they may serve before the king.
Among them were the people of Judah, including Daniel, Hannaniah, Mishael, and Azariah.
The eunuch named them Daniel Bethishazzar, Hannaniah Shadrach, Mishali Meshach, and Azariah Abednego.
But Daniel was determined not to defile himself with the king’s food and the wine he drank, so he begged the eunuch to allow him not to defile himself.
God sent Daniel to receive favor and mercy in the eyes of the eunuch.
The eunuch said to Daniel, “I am afraid of my lord the king, who has appointed your food and drink.”. What if he sees that your appearance is slimmer than that of young people your age? In this way, you will make it difficult for me to keep my head safe with the king.
Daniel said to the eunuch appointed to manage Daniel, Hannaniah, Mishael, and Azariah,
Please try the servants for ten days and give us vegetables to eat and white water to drink,
Then take a look at our appearance and the appearance of the young man who served the king’s meal, and treat your servant according to what you see.
The commission granted them permission to do this and tested them for ten days.
After ten days, I saw that their faces were more handsome and obese than all the young men who ate the king’s food.
So the commission removed the food and wine sent to them, and gave them vegetarian food to eat.
These four young men, God gave them wisdom and knowledge in all kinds of writing and learning. Daniel also understood all kinds of visions and dreams.
When the time set by King Nebuchadnezzar to bring the young men was over, the eunuch brought them before the king.
The king talked to them and saw that there was no one among the young men who could compare to Daniel, Hannaniah, Mishael, and Azariah. Therefore, he left them to stand before the king.
When the king asked them everything, he saw that their wisdom and understanding were ten times better than the magicians and those who used magic throughout the country.
In the first year of King Gulliver, Daniel was still alive.
