Samuel's note_Chapter 5
The tribes of Israel came to David in Hebron and said, “We are your bones and flesh.”.
When Saul was our king, it was you who led the Israelites in and out. The Lord also promised you, saying, You will feed my people Israel and be the ruler of Israel.
So all the elders of Israel came to Hebron to see King David. David made a covenant with them before the Lord in Hebron, and they anointed David as the king of Israel.
David was thirty years old when he ascended to the throne and reigned for forty years.
He reigned over Judah in Hebron for seven years and six months, and over Israel and Judah in Jerusalem for thirty-three years.
David and his men came to Jerusalem to attack the Jebusites who were staying in that place. The Jebusites said to David, If you do not drive out the blind and the lame, you will not be able to enter this place. I thought to myself that David could never go in.
However, David captured the fortress of Zion, which is the city of David.
On that day, David said, Whoever attacks the Jebusites, go up to the ditch and attack the lame and blind whom my heart hates. From then on, there was a saying that there were blind and lame people who could not enter the house.
David lived in the fortress and named it the City of David. David also built walls around Miloeri.
David grew stronger day by day, because the Lord God of hosts was with him.
King Hiram of Tyre brought cedar wood to David and sent messengers, carpenters, and stonemasons to build a palace for him.
David knew that the Lord had established him as king of Israel and had made his kingdom prosperous for his people Israel.
After David left Hebron, he appointed concubines in Jerusalem and had children.
The sons born in Jerusalem were Shamua, Shoba, Nathan, and Solomon,
Yihai, Elishua, Nephir, Japhia,
Elishama, Eliada, and Elifariel.
When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king of Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David. David heard it and went down to the fortress.
The Philistines have come and are scattered in the valley of Rephaim.
David asked the Lord, “May I go up and attack the Philistines?”? Do you hand them over to me? The Lord said, Go up, and I will deliver the Philistines into your hand.
David came to Baalperazim and struck down the Philistines there, saying, The Lord has broken through the enemy before me like water rushing away. Therefore, that place is called Baalpirazim.
The Philistines left their idols there, and David and his men took them.
The Philistines came up again and scattered in the valley of Rephaim.
David asked the Lord. The Lord said, Do not continue to go up, but turn behind them and attack them from opposite the mulberry forest.
When you hear the sound of footsteps on the top of the mulberry tree, hurry forward, because the Lord has already gone ahead of you to attack the army of the Philistines.
David did as the Lord commanded him and attacked the Philistines from Geba to Gezer.
