Nehemiah_Chapter 1

The words of Nehemiah, the son of Hagaria, are as follows. In the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, in the month of Kisliu, I was in the palace of Shushan.

At that time, one of my brothers Hanani came with a few people from Judah. I asked them about the situation of the Jews and Jerusalem who had been abducted and returned, and those who had escaped.

They said to me, ‘Those who have been abducted and returned to the rest will face great calamity and humiliation in the province of Judah.’. And the walls of Jerusalem were demolished, and the gates were burned with fire.

When I heard these words, I sat down and wept, mourning for a few days. Fasting and praying before the gods in heaven, saying,

O Lord, the God of heaven, the great and terrible God, keep the covenant and show mercy to those who love you and keep your commandments.

May you open your eyes and listen attentively, and let your servants pray day and night before you for the people of Israel, and acknowledge the sins that we, the Israelites, have committed against you. I and my father’s family are both guilty.

What we have done to you is very evil, we have not kept the commandments, laws, and ordinances that you commanded through your servant Moses.

Remember the words that you commanded your servant Moses, saying, If you sin, I will scatter you among all the people.

But if you turn to me and keep my commandments and do them, even though you are scattered in the ends of the earth, I will gather them from there and bring them back to the place where I have chosen to establish my name.

These are all your servants, your people, whom you have redeemed with your strength and your mighty hands.

Lord, turn your ear to the prayers of your servants, and to the prayers of your servants who love to fear your name, so that your servants may prosper and find favor before the king. I work as a bartender.
