Manasseh was Joseph’s eldest son, and the land that his tribe obtained by lot is recorded below. As for Machir, the father of Gilead, Manasseh’s eldest son, because he was a warrior, he obtained Gilead and Bashan.

The rest of the descendants of Manasseh divided the land by lot according to their families, including the Abiezer, Hil, Azriel, Shechem, Hepher, and Shimidah. These are male descendants of Manasseh son of Joseph, according to their families.

Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the great grandson of Manasseh, the great grandson of Machir, the grandson of Gilead, had no sons, only daughters. His daughter’s names are Marah, Noah, Horah, Micah, and Tirzah.

They came to Eleazar the priest, Joshua the son of Nun, and all the leaders, saying, The Lord commanded Moses to give us inheritance among our brothers. So Joshua divided his inheritance among their uncles, as the Lord had commanded him.

In addition to Gilead and Bashan on the east side of the Jordan River, there is also a tenth of the land that belongs to Manasseh,

Because the granddaughters of Manasseh obtained inheritance among Manasseh’s grandchildren. The land of Gilead belongs to the remaining descendants of Manasseh.

The border of Manasseh extends from Asher to Mitha in front of Shechem, and northward to the land of the inhabitants of Inthapua.

The land of Tapua belongs to Manasseh, but the city of Tapua on the border of Manasseh belongs to the descendants of Ephraim.

Its boundary extends south of the Cana River. These cities in Manasseh belong to Ephraim. Manasseh’s territory extends directly from Hebei to the sea.

To the south belongs Ephraim, to the north belongs Manasseh, with the sea as the boundary. To the north is Asher, and to the east is Issachar.

Manasseh had Bethshan and its towns in Issachar and Asher, Ebraim and its towns, the residents of Dor and its towns. There are three more hills, namely Endor and the towns belonging to Endor. The residents of Tana and the towns belonging to Tana, the residents of Migido and the towns belonging to Migido.

But the descendants of Manasseh were unable to drive out the inhabitants of these cities, and the Canaanites insisted on living in that land.

When the Israelites became strong, they forced the Canaanites to work hard and did not completely drive them out.

Joseph’s descendants said to Joshua, “Since the Lord has blessed us to this day and we have many people, why have you only given us one lot and one section of land as an inheritance?”?

Joshua said, If you have many people and find the mountains of Ephraim narrow, then go up to the land of the Berezites and the Rephainites and cut down trees in the forest.

The descendants of Joseph said, ‘That mountain cannot accommodate us, and the Canaanites who live in the plains, including those who live in Bethshan and the towns belonging to Bethshan, and those who live in the plains of Jezreel, all have iron chariots.’.

Joshua said to the house of Joseph, the people of Ephraim and Manasseh, ‘You are of many people and strong, and you must not have only one lot of land.’,

The mountains also belong to you, even though they are forests, you can still cut them down. The place near will belong to you. Although the Canaanites have iron chariots and are strong, you can still drive them out.
