Joshua_Chapter 10
King Adonizedek of Jerusalem heard that Joshua had taken Ai and destroyed it completely. He did the same to Jericho and his king, and also to Ai and his king. He also heard that the residents of Gibeon had made a peace treaty with the Israelites and lived among them,
I am very afraid. Because Gibeon is a great city, like a capital, larger than Ai, and all the people in the city are warriors.
So King Adonizedek of Jerusalem sent messengers to King Hoham of Hebron, King Pilam of Jermuth, King Japhia of Lachish, and King Debir of Eglon, saying,
Please come up and help me, so that we may attack Gibeon, because they have made a peace treaty with Joshua and the Israelites.
So the five Amorite kings, namely the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jermuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon, gathered together and led their armies to camp against Gibeon and attack it.
So the Gibeonites sent messengers to Joshua in the camp of Gilgal, saying, Do not neglect your servants, come up quickly to save us and help us, for all the kings of the Amorites who live in the mountains have gathered against us.
So Joshua and all his soldiers, as well as the mighty warriors, went up from Gilgal.
The Lord said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them.”. Because I have handed them over to you, none of them can stand in front of you.
Joshua went up from Gilgal all night and suddenly came to them.
The Lord caused them to be in chaos before the Israelites. Joshua greatly defeated them in Gibeon, pursued them, and killed them on the uphill path of Beth Horon, all the way to Azekah and Machida.
They fled before the Israelites, and as they were descending from Beth Horon, the Lord struck them with a great hail from heaven, hitting them as far as Azekah and killing them. More people were killed by hail than by the Israelites who killed them with a knife.
On the day when the Lord handed over the Amorites to the Israelites, Joshua prayed to the Lord and said in the eyes of the Israelites, ‘Sun, stop at Gibeon.’. Moon, you must stop in the valley of Aijalon.
So the sun stopped and the moon stopped, waiting for the people to seek revenge against the enemy. Isn’t this written in the book of Jashaar? The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and did not fall rapidly, for about a day.
Before and after this day, the Lord heard people’s prayers, but there was no one like this day because the Lord was fighting for Israel.
Joshua and all Israel returned to the camp in Gilgal.
The five kings fled and hid in the cave of Maki.
Someone told Joshua that the five kings had been found and were all hidden in the cave of Machida.
Joshua said, “Roll a few large stones to the entrance of the cave and send someone to guard them.”,
But do not delay, pursue your enemies, kill all those behind them, and do not let them enter your own cities, for the Lord your God has delivered them into your hands.
Joshua and the Israelites defeated them until they were completely destroyed. The remaining people have all entered the fortified city.
All the people returned safely to the camp of Makkedah and came to Joshua. No one dares to rap to the Israelites.
Joshua said, Open the cave entrance and bring the five kings out of the cave before me.
And they did so, and brought out the five kings, namely the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jermuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon, from the cave, and brought them before Joshua.
When he brought out the five kings to Joshua, Joshua summoned all Israel and said to the commanders of the army who went with him, ‘Come near and put your feet on the necks of these kings.’. They approached and placed their feet on the necks of these kings.
Joshua said to them, “Do not be afraid or discouraged.”. Be strong and courageous, for the Lord will do this to all your enemies whom you will attack.
Then Joshua killed these five kings and hung them on five trees. They hung on the tree until night.
As the sun was about to set, Joshua gave orders to take the body down from the tree and throw it into the cave where they had hidden it. He also placed several large stones at the entrance of the cave, which remains to this day.
On that day, Joshua took Machida and struck down the people in the city and the king with the sword. Kill all the people among them, leaving no one behind. He treated King Machida as he had treated King Jericho before.
Joshua and all Israel went from Machida to Tachnah and attacked him.
The Lord handed over Rinah and its king into the hands of the Israelites. Joshua attacked this city and killed all its inhabitants with the sword, leaving no one behind. He treated King Linah as he had treated King Jericho before.
Joshua and all Israel went from Libnah to Lachish and camped against it, attacking the city.
The Lord delivered Lachi into the hands of the Israelites. On the second day, Joshua took Lachish and struck down all the people in the city with the sword, just as he had done to Libnah.
At that time, King Holland of Gezer came up to help Lachish, and Joshua killed him and his people, leaving no one behind.
Joshua and all Israel went from Lachish to Eglon and camped against it, attacking the city.
On that day, he captured the city and killed the people in it with his sword. On that day, Joshua completely destroyed all the people in the city, just as he had done to Lachish.
Joshua and all Israel went up from Eglon to Hebron and attacked this city,
And he took Hebron and all the cities that belonged to Hebron, and struck down the people in the cities, the king, and the people in those cities with the sword, leaving no one behind, as he had done to Eglon, completely destroying all the people in the cities.
Joshua and all Israel returned to Debir and attacked the city,
And he took Dibi and its cities, and captured the king of Dibi. He killed all the people in these cities with the sword, leaving no one behind. He treated Debir and the king of Debir as he had treated Hebron, Libnah, and the king of Libnah before.
So Joshua struck down all the people of the land, including the mountains, the south, the high plateau, the mountain slopes, and the kings of those lands, leaving no one behind. Destroy all that has breath, as the Lord, the God of Israel, has commanded.
Joshua attacked from Kadesh Barnea to Gaza, and then all the land of Goshen to Gibeon.
Joshua defeated these kings and took their land for a while, because the Lord, the God of Israel, fought for Israel.
So Joshua and all Israel returned to the camp in Gilgal.
