Joshua_Chapter 14
These are the inheritance that the Israelites obtained in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, Joshua the son of Nun, and the chiefs of the tribes of Israel distributed to them,
As the Lord commanded through Moses, the inheritance was divided by lot among the nine and a half tribes.
Originally, Moses had already distributed his inheritance to the two and a half tribes east of the Jordan River, but he did not distribute his inheritance to the Levites among them.
Because Joseph’s descendants were of two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim, they did not give the land to the Levites, but gave them cities to live in and their suburbs to feed their livestock and store their wealth.
As the Lord commanded Moses, so the Israelites did and divided the land.
At that time, the Jews came to Gilgal to Joshua, and Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, said to Joshua, You know all the words that the Lord said to Moses the man of God about me and you in Kadesh Barnea.
I was forty years old when Moses, the servant of the Lord, sent me from Kadesh Barnea to explore the land. I repay him according to my heart.
However, the brothers who went up with me made the hearts of the people digest. But I am devoted to following the Lord my God.
On that day, Moses swore that the land on which your feet tread shall be yours and your descendants for an inheritance forever, because you have devoted yourself wholeheartedly to following the Lord my God.
Since the time the Lord spoke these words to Moses, the Lord has kept me alive for these forty-five years, as he promised. During this time, the Israelites were walking in the wilderness. Look, I’m 85 years old now,
I am still strong, just like the day Moses sent me. Whether it’s war, entry or exit, my strength was then and still remains.
Give me this mountain that the Lord promised me on that day. You have also heard of the Anak people and a large and strong city there. Perhaps the Lord will be with me as he promised, and I will drive them out.
So Joshua blessed Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, and gave him Hebron as his inheritance.
So Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, to this day, because he devoted himself wholeheartedly to following the Lord, the God of Israel.
Hebron’s former name was Kiriath Aba. Aba is the most respected person among the Anak people. So the country was peaceful and there was no more war.
