Jeremiah_Chapter 43
Jeremiah finished speaking all the words of the Lord their God to the people, which the Lord their God had sent him to speak.
Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the arrogant people said to Jeremiah, ‘You tell lies.’. The Lord our God did not send you to say, “Do not enter Egypt and sojourn there.”.
This is Baruch, the son of Neriah, who has incited you to harm us, to deliver us into the hands of the Chaldeans, so that some of us may be killed and others may be taken captive to Babylon.
So Johanan the son of Kareah, along with all the commanders of the army and all the people, did not listen to the word of the Lord and lived in the land of Judah.
But Johanan the son of Kareah and all the commanders of the army took away the remaining Jews, including the men, women, children, and princesses who had returned from being driven out of various countries to settle in the land of Judah, as well as all the people who were left with Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, and Jeremiah the prophet and Baruch the son of Neriah, the captain of the guard Nebuzaradan,
They were all brought into the land of Egypt and arrived at Tahpanhes. This is because they do not obey the word of the Lord.
The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah in Tabineh, saying,
Take a few large stones in your hand and hide them in the bricklaying mortar in front of the Jews, right at the entrance of Pharaoh’s palace in Tahpanhes,
And he said to them, Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: I will call my servant Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. I will place his throne on the hidden stones. He will set up the glorious treasure account on it.
He will come and attack the land of Egypt, and those who are designated as dead will come to death. Those who are designated as plunder will be plundered. Those who are determined to be killed by the sword must be killed by the sword.
I will set fire to the temple of the gods in Egypt, and the king of Babylon will burn the temple and take away the gods. He will be clothed in the land of Egypt, like a shepherd who puts on a cloak and goes safely from there.
He will smash the pillars of Bethshemesh in the land of Egypt and burn the temples of the Egyptian gods with fire.
