Jeremiah_Chapter 36

In the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, the word of the Lord came to …

In the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying,

Take a scroll and write on it all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel, Judah, and all the nations, from the day I spoke to you, from the day of Josiah until today.

Or perhaps when the people of Judah hear all the calamity that I want to bring upon them, everyone will turn back and turn away from the evil way, so that I may forgive their iniquity and sin.

So Jeremiah summoned Baruch, the son of Neriah. Baruch wrote all the words that the Lord had said to Jeremiah from his mouth in a scroll.

Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am restrained and cannot enter the house of the Lord.

So go and read the word of the Lord, which you wrote in a scroll from my mouth, to the people and all those who come out of the cities of Judah, in the temple of the Lord on the day of fasting.

Or perhaps they may plead before the Lord for everyone to turn back and turn away from the evil way, because the anger and wrath that the Lord has said to this people is great.

Baruch, the son of Neriah, did all that Jeremiah the prophet had commanded him, and read the words of the Lord from a book in the house of the Lord.

In the ninth month of the fifth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, all the people of Jerusalem and those who came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem declared a day of fasting before the Lord,

Baruch read the words of Jeremiah to all the people in the upper courtyard of the house of the Lord, at the new entrance of the house of the Lord, in the house of Kemariah the son of Shaphan, a scribe.

Micaiah, the son of Kimariah, the grandson of Shaphan, heard all the words of the Lord in the book,

He went down to the palace and entered the scholar’s room. All the leaders, including Elishama the scribe, Deliah the son of Shemaiah, Elinathan the son of Achbor, Kimariah the son of Shaphan, Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and the other leaders, sat there.

So Micaiah told them all the words he had heard, which Baruch had heard when he read the book to the people.

So the leaders sent Judi, the son of Netaniah, the grandson of Shelemiah, the great grandson of Gushi, to Baruch and said to him, ‘Take the scroll that you read to the people and bring it to us.’. Baruch, the son of Neriah, came to them with a scroll in his hand.

They said to him, “Please sit down and read it to us.”. And Baruch read it to them.

When they heard all these words, they were afraid and looked at each other, saying to Baruch, We must tell the king all these words.

They asked Baruch, “Tell us, how do you write all these words from his mouth?”?

Baruch replied, “He spoke all these words to me with his mouth, and I wrote them in a book with pen and ink.”.

The leaders said to Baruch, “Go and hide with Jeremiah, and do not let anyone know where you are.”.

The leaders went into the court to see the king, but they first stored the scroll in the house of the scribe Elishama, and later spoke all these things to the king.

So the king sent Judi to fetch this scroll, and he took it from the house of the scribe Elishama and read it to the king and his attendants on both sides.

At that time, it was September, and the king was sitting in the winter house with a burning fire in the brazier in front of him.

After Judith read three or four verses, the king cut open the scroll with the sword of a scribe and threw it into a brazier, until the entire scroll was burned up in the fire.

The king and his servants who heard all these words did not fear, nor did they tear their clothes.

Elinathan, Deliah, and Gemariah pleaded with the king not to burn this scroll, but he did not listen.

The king commanded Jerahmeel, the son of Hammelech, Zeraiah, the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah, the son of Abeldiel, to go and capture Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet. But the Lord hid them.

Wang burned the scroll. On it is the words written by Baruch from Jeremiah’s mouth. The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah in the future, saying,

Take another scroll and write all the words from the first scroll that King Jehoiakim of Judah burned on it.

Regarding King Jehoiakim of Judah, you must say, ‘This is what the Lord says:’ You burned a scroll and said, ‘Why did you write on it that the king of Babylon will come and destroy this land, so that people and livestock will be cut off?’?

Therefore the Lord said of King Jehoiakim of Judah, No one among his descendants will sit on the throne of David. His body will be abandoned, the day will be scorched, and the night will be frosty.

I will punish him, his descendants, and his servants for their sins. I will bring all the calamity that I have spoken of upon them, upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the people of Judah. They just don’t listen.

So Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah. He wrote all the words from the scroll that King Jehoiakim of Judah had burned, and added many similar words from Jeremiah’s mouth.
