Gospel of Luke_Chapter 7
After Jesus had finished speaking all these words to the people, he entered Capernaum.
A centurion’s precious servant fell ill and was on the verge of death.
When the centurion heard about Jesus, he entrusted several elders of the Jews to ask Jesus to come and save his servant.
When they arrived at Jesus, they earnestly begged him, saying, He is worthy that you have done this for him.
Because he loved our people and built a synagogue for us.
Jesus went with them. Not far from that house, the centurion sent some friends to Jesus and said to him, Lord, do not labor. I dare not accept you for coming to my place.
I also think I don’t deserve to see you. As long as you say a word, my servant will be well.
Because I am under human authority, and there are also soldiers below me. If I say go, he will go. Speaking of that, he will come. And he said to my servant, Do this thing, and he will go and do it.
When Jesus heard these words, he marveled at him and turned to the crowd following him, saying, I tell you, even in Israel, I have not found such great faith.
The person who came over returned to the centurion’s house and saw that the servant had already recovered.
Not long after, the next day Jesus went to a city called Nain, and his disciples and a large number of people walked with him.
Approaching the city gate, a dead person was carried out. This person is the only son of his mother, who is also a widow. Many people in the city accompanied the widow to her funeral.
When the Lord saw the widow, he had mercy on her and said to her, Do not cry.
So he stepped forward and pressed the bar, and the person carrying him stood still. Jesus said, Young man, I command you to get up.
The dead person sat up and spoke. Jesus then handed him over to his mother.
Everyone was amazed and glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has risen up among us.”. And he said, God has blessed his people.
The news of his matter spread throughout Judea and the surrounding areas.
John’s disciples told John all these things.
And he called two disciples and sent them to the Lord, saying, Is it you who is about to come? Or are we waiting for others?
The two of them came to Jesus and said, John the Baptist sent us to ask you, is it you who is coming? Or are we waiting for others?
At that moment, Jesus healed many who were sick, plagued, and possessed evil spirits. Also kindly ask many blind people to see.
Jesus replied, “Go and tell John what you have seen and heard.”. The blind see, the lame walk, the leper is pure, the deaf hear, the dead are resurrected, and the poor have the gospel to preach to them.
Blessed are those who do not fall because of me.
When the men sent by John had left, Jesus spoke to the crowd about John, saying, “What did you go out into the wilderness to see?”? Do you want to see the reeds swayed by the wind?
What exactly are you going out to see? Do you want to see people wearing soft clothes? The person who dresses in gorgeous clothes and indulges in extravagance is in the palace.
What exactly are you going out to see? Do you want to see the prophet? I tell you, yes, he is much more than a prophet.
It is written in the scripture that I will send my messengers before you to prepare the way. What is being said is this person.
I tell you, there is no one born to a woman who is greater than John. However, the smallest one in the kingdom of God is even bigger than him.
All the people and tax collectors, who were baptized by John and heard these words, justified God.
But the Pharisees and the lawyers, who had not been baptized by John, abandoned the will of God for themselves. (In verse 29:32, when the people and tax collectors heard John’s words, they were baptized by him and justified God. However, the Pharisees and lawyers were not baptized by John, and instead abandoned God’s will for themselves.)
And the Lord said, What can I compare to this generation? What do they seem to be?
It’s like children sitting in the market, calling out to each other, ‘We play the flute to you, you don’t dance, we mourn to you, you don’t cry.’.
John the Baptist came, not eating bread or drinking alcohol. You said he was possessed by ghosts.
When the Son of Man comes, he eats and drinks. You say he is a gluttonous and alcoholic person, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.
But the sons of wisdom all regard wisdom as right.
There was a Pharisee who invited Jesus to eat with him. Jesus went to the house of the Pharisees and sat at the table.
There is a woman in that city who is a sinner. Knowing that Jesus was sitting at the table in the house of the Pharisees, he took an jade jar containing ointment,
Standing behind Jesus, crying at his feet, tears wet his feet. He wiped them dry with his own hair and kissed his feet with his mouth, putting on ointment.
When the Pharisees of Jesus saw this, they said to themselves, If this man were a prophet, he would know who touched him and what kind of woman she was, but a sinner.
Jesus said to him, Simon, I have something to say to you. Simon said, Master, please speak.
Jesus said, A creditor, two people owe him debt. One owes fifty taels of silver, and the other owes fifty taels of silver.
Because they were unable to repay, the creditor generously waived the debts of the two of them. Which of these two people loves him more?
Simon replied, “I think it’s the one who has been forgiven so much.”. Jesus said, You made a good decision.
So he turned towards the woman and said to Simon, “Have you seen this woman?”? I entered your house, but you didn’t give me water to wash my feet. But this woman wet my feet with tears and wiped them dry with her hair.
You didn’t kiss me, but this woman has been kissing my feet since I came in.
You didn’t use oil to wipe my head, but this woman uses ointment to wipe my feet.
So I tell you, he has pardoned many of his sins. Because he has a lot of love. But those who have less forgiveness have less love.
So he said to the woman, Your sins have been forgiven.
The people sitting at the table said in their hearts, “What kind of person is this who pardons people’s sins?”?
Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you. Go back in peace.”.
