Gospel of John_Chapter 5
After this, it came to a Jewish festival. Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
In Jerusalem, near the Sheep Gate, there is a pond called Bethesda in Hebrew, with five porticos beside it.
Inside lay blind, limping, and lifeless patients. (There are ancient scrolls here, waiting for water movement)
Because an angel went down to the pond at the right time to stir up the water, and whoever went down first after the water stirred up, regardless of what illness he caused, was healed.
There is a person there who has been sick for thirty-eight years.
Jesus saw him lying down and knew that he had been sick for a long time. He asked him, “Do you want to be healed?”?
The patient replied, sir, when the water is moving, no one puts me in the pool. When I was just going, someone else came down earlier than me.
Jesus said to him, “Get up, take your mat and leave.”.
The person immediately recovered and picked up the mat and walked away.
That day was the Sabbath, so the Jews said to the one who had been healed, ‘Today is the Sabbath, and you are not allowed to take a mat.’.
But he answered, ‘The one who healed me said to me,’ Take your mat and leave. ‘.
They asked him, “Who is the person who told you to take the mat and leave?”?
I don’t know who the cured person is. Because there were many people there, Jesus had already dodged.
Later, Jesus met him in the temple and said to him, “You have been healed.”. Don’t commit any more crimes. I’m afraid you have encountered even more difficulties.
The man went and told the Jews that it was Jesus who healed him.
So the Jews persecuted Jesus because he did this on the Sabbath.
Jesus said to them, “My father works until now, and I also work.”.
So the Jews increasingly wanted to kill him. Because he not only violated the Sabbath, but also called God his Father, treating himself and God equally.
Jesus said to them, Truly I tell you, the Son cannot do anything by himself, but only when he sees what the Father has done, can the Son do it. What the father does, the son also does the same.
The father loves his son and shows him everything he does. And I will show him even greater things, so that you may marvel.
Just as the Father raises the dead to life, so the Son brings them to life according to his own will.
The father does not judge anyone, but entrusts all the judgment to the son.
Everyone should respect their son, just as they respect their father. He who does not respect his son does not respect the father who sent him.
Truly, I tell you the truth, those who listen to my words and believe in those who send me have eternal life, and will not be condemned; they have already gone from death to life.
Truly, I tell you the truth, the time is coming, and it is now that the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God. Those who hear it will come to life.
For as the father has life in himself, so he gave his son life in himself.
And because he is the Son of Man, give him the authority to judge.
Don’t take this matter for granted. The time is coming, and everyone in the tomb will hear his voice and come out.
The resurrection of those who do good brings life, and the resurrection of those who do evil convicts.
I can’t do anything on my own. I will judge as I hear. My trial is also fair. Because I don’t seek my own meaning, I only seek the meaning of the one who sent me.
If I bear witness for myself, my testimony is not true.
There is another witness for me. I also know that the testimony he gave me is true.
You have sent someone to John, who bears witness to the truth.
In fact, the testimony I have received is not from people. However, I say these words to save you.
John is a lit lamp. You are willing to temporarily like his light.
But I have a bigger witness than John. For the things that the Father gave me to accomplish, which I did, bear witness that I was sent by the Father.
The father who sent me also bears witness to me. You have never heard his voice, nor seen his image.
You don’t have his way in your heart. Because you don’t believe what he sent.
You study the Bible. For you believe that there is eternal life within. This is the scripture that bears witness to me.
However, you refuse to come to me for life.
I do not receive glory from men.
But I know you don’t have God’s love in your hearts.
I came in the name of my father, but you did not receive me. If someone else comes in their own name, you must receive them.
How can you believe in me when you receive glory from each other but do not seek glory from the One God?
Don’t think I’m going to sue you in front of my father. One accuser to you is Moses, whom you rely on.
If you believe in Moses, you will also believe in me. Because there are words pointed at me in his book.
How can you believe my words if you don’t believe his books?
