At that moment, Pilate whipped Jesus.

The soldiers wove a crown of thorns and put it on his head, putting a purple robe on him.

And he approached him again and said, Congratulations to the King of the Jews. They hit him with their palms.

Pilate came out again and said to the crowd, ‘I will bring him out to you, so that you may know that I cannot find any guilt in him.’.

Jesus came out wearing a thorny crown and a purple robe. Pilate said to them, Look at this man.

When the chief priests and attendants saw him, they shouted, “Crucify him, crucify him.”. Pilate said, crucify him yourselves. I can’t find out what crime he has.

The Jews replied, “We have a law, and according to that law, he deserves to die because he considers himself the Son of God.”.

When Pilate heard these words, he became even more afraid.

And entering the yamen again, he said to Jesus, Where are you from? But Jesus did not answer.

Pilate said, “Aren’t you talking to me?”? Do you not know that I have the power to release you and the power to crucify you?

Jesus answered and said, If it were not given to you from above, you would have no authority over me. So the person who handed me over to you is even more guilty.

From then on, Pilate wanted to release Jesus. Helplessly, the Jews shouted, “If you release this person, you are not a loyal servant of Caesar.”. Anyone who regards themselves as king has betrayed Caesar.

When Pilate heard these words, he took Jesus out and went to a place called the place where the stones were spread out, which is called Ebadah in Hebrew. He sat in the church there.

That day was the day of preparing for the Passover, about noon. Pilate said to the Jews, “See, this is your king.”.

They shouted, ‘Take him away, take him away, crucify him.’. Pilate said, May I crucify your king? The chief priest replied, “We have no king except Caesar.”.

So Pilate handed Jesus over to them to be crucified.

They took Jesus away. Jesus carried his cross and came out to a place called the Land of the Skull, which is called Golgotha in Hebrew.

They nailed him to the cross there, and two others nailed him together, one on each side, with Jesus in the middle.

Pilate wrote another name with a sign and placed it on the cross. It is written about Jesus the Nazarene, the king of the Jews.

Many Jews recite this name. Because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and it was written in three languages: Hebrew, Roman, and Greek.

The chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, “Do not write about the king of the Jews.”. To write about himself saying that I am the king of the Jews.

Pilate said, I have written what I have written.

Since the soldiers crucified Jesus, they divided his clothes into four parts, one for each soldier. Take his inner garment again. This inner garment, originally not sewn, was woven from top to bottom.

They said to each other, “Let’s not tear it apart, just draw lots and see who gets it.”. This will fulfill the words of the scripture: They have divided my outer garment and cast lots for my inner garment. The soldiers did indeed do this.

Standing beside the cross of Jesus were his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Cleopatra, and Mary Magdalene.

When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple he loved standing by, he said to his mother, “Woman, look at your son.”.

And he said to the disciple, Look at your mother. From then on, the disciple took her to his own house.

After this, Jesus knew that all things had been done, so that the scriptures might be fulfilled. He said, I am thirsty.

There is a vessel filled with vinegar and placed there. They dipped seaweed in vinegar, tied it to hyssop, and brought it to his mouth.

Jesus tasted the vinegar and said, It is done. He lowered his head and delivered his soul to God.

The Jews begged Pilate to have their legs broken and their bodies taken away, so that their bodies would not be left on the cross on the Sabbath, as it was a day of preparation and a great Sabbath.

So the soldiers came and broke the leg of the first person and the leg of the second person who was crucified with Jesus.

But when he came to Jesus and saw that he was dead, he did not break his legs.

Only one soldier pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water flowed out.

The person who saw this thing testified, and his testimony is also true, and he knows that what he said is true, so that you may also believe.

These things have been accomplished to fulfill the scripture, that none of his bones shall be broken.

There is another saying in the scripture that they will look up to the person they pierced.

After these things, Joseph the Arimathean, who was a disciple of Jesus, secretly became a disciple out of fear of the Jews. He came to Pilate to bring away the body of Jesus. Pilate agreed, and he took away the body of Jesus.

And Nicodemus, who had gone to see Jesus the night before, came with myrrh and agarwood, weighing about a hundred pounds.

They wrapped the body of Jesus in fine linen cloth and spices, according to the funeral customs of the Jews.

There is a garden where Jesus was crucified. There is a new tomb in the garden, which has never been buried before.

Because it was the Jewish day of preparation, and because the tomb was near, they placed Jesus there.
