Gospel of John_Chapter 4

The Lord knew that the Pharisees heard that he baptized more disciples than John,

(Actually, it was not Jesus himself who baptized, but his disciples who baptized.)

He left Judea and went back to Galilee.

Must pass through Samaria.

So he arrived at a city in Samaria called Xukah, near the land that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.

There is Jacob’s Well there. Jesus sat by the well, feeling tired from walking. At that time, it was around noon.

A Samaritan woman came to fetch water. Jesus said to her, “Please give me water to drink.”.

At that time, the disciples went into the city to buy food.

The Samaritan woman said to him, “Since you are a Jew, how can you ask me, a Samaritan woman, for water to drink?”? Originally, there was no interaction between Jews and Samaritans.

Jesus answered and said, If you know the gift of God and who said to you to give me water to drink, you will ask him early, and he will give you living water early.

The woman said, “Sir, you don’t have any water fetching tools, and the well is deep. Where do you get live water from?”?

Our ancestor Jacob left this well for us. He himself, his son, and his livestock also drink water from this well. Are you even older than him?

Jesus answered, “Whoever drinks this water will thirst again.”.

If a person drinks the water I give, they will never thirst. The water I give will become a spring in him, flowing straight to eternal life.

The woman said, Sir, please give me this water so that I am not thirsty or used to fetch water so far.

Jesus said, Go and call your husband to come here too.

The woman said, I have no husband. Jesus said, It is right for you to say that there is no husband.

You already have five husbands. What you have now is not your husband. What you said is true.

The woman said, Sir, I see that you are a prophet.

Our ancestors worship on this mountain. But you say that the place of worship is in Jerusalem.

Jesus said, Woman, believe in me. The time is coming for you to worship your Father, and you will not be on this mountain or in Jerusalem.

You don’t know what you worship. What we worship, we know. Because salvation comes from the Jews.

The time is coming, and now it is. Those who truly worship the Father must worship him with their hearts and honesty, because the Father wants such people to worship him.

God is a spirit (or has no words), so those who worship him must worship him with their hearts and honesty.

The woman said, I know that the Messiah (who is called Christ) is coming. He has come and will tell us everything.

Jesus said, He is the one who speaks to you.

And when the disciples returned, they marveled at Jesus speaking to a woman. Just no one said, what do you want? Or rather, why are you talking to her?

The woman left behind a water jar and went to the city, saying to the people,

Look, there is someone who has told me all the things I have done before. Is this not Christ?

And they went out of the city to Jesus.

During this time, the disciples said to Jesus, Rabbi, please eat.

Jesus said, I have food to eat, which you do not know.

And the disciples asked one another, Did anyone give him anything to eat?

Jesus said, My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to do his work.

Don’t you say, when it comes to harvest, there are still four months left? I tell you, look up at the fields and see that the crops are ripe and can be harvested.

The reapers receive wages and accumulate grain for eternal life. Let the sower and the reaper be happy together.

As the saying goes, “That person sows, and that person reaps.” This statement can be seen as true.

I sent you to collect what you didn’t labor for. Others labor, and you enjoy what they labor for.

Many Samaritans in that city believed in Jesus, because the woman testified, saying, He has told me all that I have done before.

So the Samaritans came to Jesus and begged him to stay with them. He stayed there for two days.

Because of Jesus’ words, more people believed.

And he said to the woman, Now we believe not because of your words, but because we ourselves have heard and know that this is truly the savior.

After those two days, Jesus left the place and went to Galilee.

Because Jesus himself testified that prophets are not respected in their own land.

When they arrived in Galilee, the Galileans saw all the things he had done during the festival in Jerusalem and welcomed him. Because they also went up to celebrate the festival.

Jesus returned to Cana in Galilee, where he had turned water into wine. There was a minister whose son fell ill in Capernaum.

When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he came to him and begged him to go down and heal his son. Because his son is about to die.

Jesus said to him, If you do not see signs and wonders, you will never believe.

The minister said, Sir, please go down while my child is still alive.

Jesus said to him, Go back. Your son is alive. The man believed what Jesus had said and went back.

As he was going down, his servant met him and said, “His son is alive.”.

He asked when he would see you again. They said that the fever subsided before midnight yesterday.

He knew that this was exactly when Jesus said to him, “When your son lives, he himself and all his family believe.”.

This is the second miracle that Jesus did in Galilee, which he did after returning from Judea.
