Exodus_Chapter 17

All the Israelites followed the command of the Lord and set out from the wilderness of Sin, camping in Rephidim. The people have no water to drink,

So they argued with Moses, saying, Give us water to drink. Moses said to them, Why do you argue with me? Why test the Lord?

The people were very thirsty there, wanting to drink water. They complained to Moses, saying, “Why did you bring us out of Egypt, so that we, our children, and livestock, died of thirst?”?

Moses cried out to the Lord, saying, What shall I do to this people? They were almost going to stone me to death.

The Lord said to Moses, Take the rod that you previously struck the river with, and lead some of the elders of Israel over from before the people.

I will stand before you at the rock of Horeb. If you strike the rock, there will be water flowing out of it, so that the people can drink. Moses did this in front of the elders of Israel.

He named the place Massah (meaning trial) and Milibah (meaning strife) because of the children of Israel’s strife and because they tried the Lord, saying, Is the Lord among us.

At that time, the Amalekites came to fight against the Israelites in Rephidim.

Moses said to Joshua, “Choose someone for us to go out and fight against the Amalekites.”. Tomorrow I will stand on the mountaintop with the staff of God in my hand.

So Joshua did as Moses had said to him and fought against the Amalekites. Moses, Aaron, and Hur all went up to the top of the mountain.

When Moses raised his hand, the Israelites prevailed; when he lowered his hand, the Amalekites prevailed.

But Moses’ hands became heavy, so they brought stones and placed them below him, and he sat on top. Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side and the other on the other, and his hands remained stable until sunset.

Joshua killed King Amalek and his people with the sword.

The Lord said to Moses, “I will completely blot out the name of Amalek from under heaven. Write this in a book as a memorial and read it to Joshua.”.

Moses built an altar and named it Jehoahazi,

And he said, The Lord has sworn that he will fight with the Amalekites for generations to come.
