Deuteronomy_Chapter 3
In the future, we will turn back and head towards Bashan. King Og of Bashan and all his people came out to fight against us in Edrei.
The Lord said to me, Do not be afraid of him. For I have delivered him, his people, and his land into your hands. You must treat him as you did to King Sihon of the Amorites who stayed in Heshbon before.
So the Lord our God also delivered King Og of Bashan and all his people into our hands. We killed them, leaving no one behind.
At that time, we took all his cities, a total of sixty, and not a single city was taken away by us. This is the entire territory of Argob, the kingdom of King Og in the land of Bashan.
These cities have strong high walls, doors, and bolts. In addition, there are many rural areas without city walls.
We have destroyed all of these, just as we did to King Sihon of Heshbon before, destroying every city with people, including women and children.
Only all livestock and the treasures of the city were taken as their plunder.
At that time, we took the land from the Arnon Valley to Mount Hermon by the hands of two Amorite kings east of the Jordan River
(This Mount Hermon is called Silian by the Sidonians and Shinir by the Amorites),
He took all the cities of the plain, all the land of Gilead, all the land of Bashan, as far as Zechard and Edrei, all the cities of the kingdom of Og, king of Bashan.
(Only Og, the king of Bashan, remained among the people of Rephaim. His bed was made of iron, nine cubits long and four cubits wide, measured by human cubits. Isn’t it now in Rabbah of the Ammonites?)
At that time, we acquired this land. Starting from Aroer by the Arnon Valley, I gave half of the Gilead mountain range and its cities to the Reubenites and Gadites.
I gave the remaining land of Gilead and all Bashan, which is the kingdom of King Og, to the half tribe of Manasseh. All the land of Argob is the land of Bashan. This is called the land of the Leva people.
Jair, the son of Manasseh, occupied the entire territory of Argob, up to the border between the Geshur and the Maacah people. He named this land of Bashan after himself as Havoth Jair, and it continues to this day.
I gave Gilead to Machir again.
I gave it to the Reubenites and Gadites, from Gilead to the valley of Arnon, with the middle of the valley as the boundary, and even to the Jabo River at the border of the Ammonites,
And he gave them the Arabah and the land near the Jordan River, from Kinnerod to the Sea of Arabah, which is the Salt Sea, and the land east of the roots of Mount Pisgah.
At that time, I commanded you, saying, The Lord your God has given you this land as an inheritance. All your warriors must carry weapons and go over in front of your brothers the Israelites.
But your wives, children, and livestock (I know you have many livestock) can live in the cities I have given you.
Only when your brothers are on the other side of the Jordan River and have received the land that the Lord your God has given them, and have given them peace like you, can you return to the land that I have given you for your inheritance.
At that time, I commanded Joshua, saying, You have seen with your own eyes what the Lord your God has done to these two kings. The Lord will do the same to all the countries you are going to.
Do not be afraid of them, for the Lord your God is the one who fights for you.
At that time, I pleaded with the Lord, saying,
O Lord GOD, you have shown your strength and power to your servants. What god can walk like you in heaven and on earth, like you with great works?
Please allow me to go over and see the beautiful land on the other side of the Jordan River, the beautiful mountains and Lebanon.
But the Lord was angry with me for your sake and did not answer me. He said to me, ‘It’s okay, don’t bring this matter up to me again.’.
Go up to the top of Pisgah and look east, west, south, and north, for you will not be able to cross the Jordan River.
But you must instruct Joshua, encourage him, and make him brave. For he will pass over before this people, so that they may inherit the land that you will see.
So we lived in the valley opposite Beth Peor.
