The Book of Amos_Chapter 1
During the reign of King Uzziah of Judah and Jeroboam son of King Joash of Israel, two years before the great earthquake, Amos, one of the shepherds of Tikoa, prophesied about Israel.
He said, The Lord will roar from Zion and make a sound from Jerusalem. The pasture of shepherds shall mourn, and the top of Carmel shall wither.
This is what the Lord says: Damascus has committed three or four sins, and I will not spare her punishment. Because she has beaten Gilead with an iron tool for grain.
But I will send a fire in the house of Hazael, burning down the palaces of Benhadad.
I will break the bars of Damascus, cut off the inhabitants of the plain of Avon, and cut off the rulers of Beth Eden. The Arameans will be taken captive to Kir. This is what the Lord has said.
This is what the Lord says: For the sins of Gaza three times and four times, I will not spare her punishment. Because she abducted all the people and handed them over to Edom.
But I will send a fire within the city of Gaza, burning down its palaces.
I will cut off the inhabitants of Ashdod and the rulers of Ashkelon. I will also turn my back and attack Ekron. All that remains of the Philistines will perish. This is what the Lord Jehovah has said.
Thus says the Lord, For the sins of Tyre three times and four times, I will not spare her punishment. Because she handed over all the people to Edom and did not remember the covenant of her brothers.
But I will send a fire within the city of Tyre, burning down its palaces.
This is what the Lord says: For the sins of Edom three times and four times, I will not spare her punishment. Because she chased after her brothers with a sword, without mercy, angry and torn apart, forever filled with anger.
But I will send a fire on Teman, burning down the palaces of Bozrah.
Thus says the Lord, I will not spare the punishment of the children of Ammon for their three or four sins. Because they cut open the pregnant women of Gilead and expanded their horizons.
But on the day of war and shouting, in the midst of a raging whirlwind, I will set fire to the city of Rabbah, burning down its palaces.
Their king and their leaders will be taken captive together. This is what the Lord has said.
