After this, there is another thing. Naboth the Jezreel had a vineyard in Jezreel, near the palace of King Ahab of Samaria.

Ahab said to Naboth, “Give me your vineyard as a vegetable garden, because it is near my palace.”. I will exchange a better vineyard for you, or if you want silver, I will give it to you according to its value.

Naboth said to Ahab, “I fear the Lord and will never give you the inheritance left by my ancestors.”.

Ahab said to Naboth the Jezreelite, “I dare not give you the inheritance left by my ancestors.” So he returned to his palace sullen and lay in bed, turning his face inward and refusing to eat.

Queen Jezebel came to him and asked, “Why are you so depressed in your heart that you don’t eat?”?

He answered, Because I said to Naboth the Jezreelite, Give me your vineyard, and I will give you the price of silver, or if you are willing, I will exchange other vineyards for you. But he said, I will not give you my vineyard.

Queen Jezebel said to Ahab, Are you now ruling over the land of Israel. Just get up and eat with a joyful heart, and I will give you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.

So he wrote a letter in the name of Ahab, stamped it with the king’s seal, and sent it to the elders and nobles who lived in the same city as Naboth.

And it was written in the letter, saying, Declare a fast, and let Naboth sit in a high place among the people,

And he called two bandits to sit opposite Naboth and testify against him, saying, You have blasphemed God and the king. Then he was pulled out and stoned to death.

The elders and nobles who lived with Naboth in the city received the letter of Jezebel and acted according to it,

Declare a fast and have Naboth sit on a high position among the people.

Two bandits came and sat opposite Naboth, testifying against him in front of the people, saying, Naboth has blasphemed God and the king. So they pulled him outside the city and stoned him to death.

So he sent messengers to Jezebel, saying, Naboth has been stoned to death.

When Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned to death, he said to Ahab, Get up and take possession of the vineyard that Naboth the Jezreelite refused to give you for money. Now he is dead.

When Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, he got up and went down to take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreel.

The word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tisbite, saying,

Get up and go to meet Ahab, the king of Israel, who is living in Samaria. He has gone down to take possession of Naboth’s vineyard and is currently in it.

You shall say to him, This is what the Lord says: Have you killed a man and obtained his inheritance? And say to him again, Thus says the Lord: Wherever a dog licks Naboth’s blood, it will also lick your blood.

Ahab said to Elijah, “O my enemy, have you found me?”? He replied, “I have found you.”. Because you have sold yourself and done evil in the eyes of the Lord.

The Lord said, I will bring disaster upon you and consume you completely. Cut off from Israel every male belonging to you, whether trapped or free.

I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat, and like the house of Bashar son of Ahijah. Because you have provoked me to anger and caused Israel to sin.

As for Jezebel, the Lord also said, Dogs will eat Jezebel’s flesh on the outer wall of Jezreel.

All people belonging to Ahab who die in the city will be eaten by dogs, and those who die in the fields will be eaten by birds of the air.

There has never been anyone like Ahab, who sold himself and did evil in the eyes of the Lord, being stirred up by Queen Jezebel.

And he did the most detestable thing, following the idols, according to the Amorites whom the Lord had driven out before the Israelites

When Ahab heard these words, he tore his clothes, fasted, and was dressed in linen. He also slept in linen and walked slowly.

The word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tisbite, saying,

Do you see how Ahab feels inferior in front of me? Because he is inferior before me, I will not bring this calamity while he is still alive. In the time of his son, I will bring this disaster to his house.
