st Kings _Chapter 1
King David is old and old, even though he is covered with a blanket, he still doesn’t feel warm.
So my servants said to him, “It is better to find a virgin for my lord the king, so that she can serve and support the king, and sleep in his arms, so that my lord the king may be warm.”.
So he searched for beautiful virgins throughout all Israel and found Abishag, a Shunem virgin, and brought her to the king.
This virgin was extremely beautiful. She raised and served the king, but the king did not get close to her.
At that time, Adonijah, the son of Haggith, respected himself and said, “I will become king.” So he prepared for himself chariots and cavalry, and sent fifty men to run before him.
His father never made him sad and said, “What are you doing?”? He was very handsome and was born after Absalom.
Adonijah consulted with Joab son of Zeruiah and Abiathar the priest. The two of them obeyed him and helped him.
But Zadok the priest, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei, Rei, and David’s warriors did not obey Adonijah.
One day, Adonijah slaughtered cattle, sheep, and fattened calves at the rock of Zohilead by the side of Enrogel, and invited his brothers, the king’s sons, and all the Jews who were the king’s servants.
But the prophet Nathan and Benaiah, as well as the warriors and his brother Solomon, he did not invite them.
Nathan said to Bathsheba, the mother of Solomon, Have you not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith has become king? But our Lord David did not know.
Now I can give you an idea to save your and your son Solomon’s lives.
Go in and see King David, and say to him, O my lord the king, have you not sworn to your servant, saying, Your son Solomon will succeed me as king and sit on my throne? How did Adonijah become king now?
When you were still talking to Wang, I also went in afterwards to confirm your words.
Bathsheba entered the inner chamber and saw the king, who was very old. Abishag, the Shunammite, was serving the king.
Bathsheba bowed down to the king. Wang said, what do you want.
She said, My lord, you have sworn to your servant by the Lord your God, saying, Your son Solomon will succeed me as king and sit on my throne.
Now Adonijah is king, but my lord the king does not know.
He slaughtered many cattle, sheep, and fat calves, and invited the king’s sons, Abiathar the priest, and Joab the commander of the army. But Solomon, the servant of the king, did not invite him.
My lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are looking up to you, until you tell them who will sit on your throne after my lord the king.
If not, after my lord the king sleeps with his ancestors, I and my son Solomon will be counted as sinners.
While Bathsheba was still speaking to the king, the prophet Nathan also came in.
Someone reported to the king, saying, The prophet Nathan has come. Nathan walked in front of the king, his face lying on the ground.
Nathan said, Did my lord the king indeed promise Adonijah that you would succeed me as king and sit on my throne?
He went down today and slaughtered many cattle, sheep, and fattened calves. He invited the king’s sons, military commanders, and Abiathar the priest. They were eating and drinking in front of Adonijah, saying, May King Adonijah live forever.
But I, your servant and Zadok the priest, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Solomon the king’s servant, he did not invite.
Does this really happen to my lord, my king? But the king did not tell the servants who would sit on your throne after my lord the king.
King David ordered to call Bathsheba. Then Bathsheba came in and stood before the king.
The king swore, saying, As the Lord lives, who saved my life from all suffering.
Since I have sworn to you by the Lord, the God of Israel, that Solomon your son will succeed me as king and sit on my throne. I will do as I said today.
So Bathsheba fell to the ground with his face and bowed to the king, saying, May my lord King David live forever.
King David also commanded to summon Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada. They all came to the king.
The king said to them, ‘Take your lord’s servants and have my son Solomon ride on my mule, and send him down to Gihon.’.
There, the priest Zadok and the prophet Nathan will anoint him as the king of Israel. Blow the trumpet, and say, May King Solomon live forever.
Then I will follow him up and make him sit on my throne, succeeding me as king. I have made him ruler over Israel and Judah.
Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, said to the king, Amen. May the Lord, the God of my lord the king, also so decree.
As the Lord is with my lord the king, may he be with Solomon, so that his throne may be greater than the throne of my lord the king David.
So Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and Berethites all went down to let Solomon ride King David’s mule and bring him to Gihon.
Then the priest Zadok took a horn filled with ointment from the tabernacle and anointed Solomon with ointment. And they blew the trumpet, and all the people said, May King Solomon live forever.
All the people followed him up, playing the flute and cheering loudly, their voices shaking the earth.
Adonijah and all the guests he invited finished their banquet and heard this sound. When Joab heard the sound of the horn, he said, Why is this noise in the city?
While he was speaking, Jonathan, the son of Abiathar the priest, came. Adonijah said to him, Come in. You are a loyal person, you must be reporting good information.
Jonathan said to Adonijah, “Indeed, our lord King David has made Solomon king.”.
The king sent priests Zadok, prophet Nathan, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and Berethites to send Solomon to ride the king’s mule.
Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him as king in Gihon. Everyone came up from there cheering, and the sound shook the city. This is the sound you have heard.
And Solomon ascended to the throne.
The king’s servants also came to bless our lord King David, saying, May the king’s God make Solomon’s name more honored than the king’s name. Make his throne greater than the king’s throne. Wang bent down on the bed and bowed.
And the king said, Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel. Because he gave me one person to sit on my seat today, and I saw it with my own eyes.
When Adonijah’s guests heard these words, they were all frightened and scattered.
Adonijah was afraid of Solomon, so he got up and went to grab the corner of the altar.
Someone told Solomon, ‘Adonijah is afraid of King Solomon. Now he has seized the corner of the altar and said,’ May King Solomon swear to me today that he will not kill his servant with the sword. ‘.
Solomon said, If he be a faithful man, not a single hair shall fall to the ground. If he does evil, he will surely die.
So King Solomon sent someone to bring Adonijah down from the altar, and he came to bow down to King Solomon. Solomon said to him, “Go home.”.
