At that time, Abijah, the son of Jeroboam, fell ill.

Jeroboam said to his wife, “Get up and modify yourself, so that no one will know that you are Jeroboam’s wife. Go to Shiloh, where the prophet Ahijah is.”. He once told me, ‘You will be the king of this people.’.

Now bring ten cakes, some thin cakes, and a bottle of honey to him, and he will tell you what your son will do.

Jeroboam’s wife did this and got up and went to Shiloh, where she came to the house of Ahijah. Due to his old age, Ahijah’s eyes became straight and he could not see.

The Lord first spoke to Ahijah, saying, Jeroboam’s wife will come and ask you, because her son is sick, so and so tell her. When she comes in, she must pretend to be another woman.

As soon as she entered the door, Ahijah heard the sound of her footsteps and said, Jeroboam’s wife, come in. Why do you pretend to be another woman? I am sent to tell you the truth.

Go back and tell Jeroboam, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says:’ I have lifted you up from the people and made you ruler over my people Israel. ‘,

Take the kingdom back from the house of David and give it to you. But you did not follow my servant David, keeping my commandments and wholeheartedly following me, doing what is right in my eyes.

You have done evil even more than those who came before you. You have set up other gods for yourself, cast idols, provoked me to anger, and cast me behind your back.

Therefore, I will bring disaster upon the house of Jeroboam, cutting off all the male servants of Jeroboam, whether they be trapped or free, from Israel. I will cut off all the house of Jeroboam, just as a man takes away all his dung.

Any person belonging to Jeroboam who dies in the city will be eaten by the dogs, and anyone who dies in the fields will be eaten by the birds of the air. This is what the Lord has said.

So get up and go home. As soon as your feet enter the city, your son will surely die.

All Israel will mourn for him and bury him. All those who belong to Jeroboam, only he is allowed to enter the tomb. Because in the house of Jeroboam, only he showed good deeds to the Lord, the God of Israel.

The Lord will appoint another king to rule over Israel. At the appointed time, he will cut off the house of Jeroboam. That date has already arrived.

The Lord will strike the Israelites and make them shake like reeds in the water. And he uprooted them from the beautiful land that the Lord had given to their ancestors, and scattered them on the other side of the river. Because they make puppets and provoke the Lord to anger.

Because of the sins committed by Jeroboam, and because he caused the Israelites to sin, the Lord will deliver the Israelites to their enemies.

Jeroboam’s wife got up and went back to Tirzah. As soon as she reached the threshold, her son died.

All Israel buried him and mourned for him, just as the Lord had said through his servant Ahijah the prophet.

Jeroboam reigned for twenty-two years and slept with his ancestors. His son Nadab succeeded him as king.

Rehoboam son of Solomon became king of Judah. He was forty-one years old when he ascended to the throne, and he reigned in Jerusalem, the city chosen by the Lord from all the tribes of Israel, for seventeen years. Rehoboam’s mother’s name was Namah, an Ammonite.

The Jews did evil in the eyes of the Lord, and their sins stirred up his indignation even more than their ancestors.
