st Kings _Chapter 19
Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword.
Jezebel sent messengers to Elijah and told him, ‘If tomorrow around this time, I do not make your life like the lives of those people, may God punish me severely.’.
When Elijah saw this situation, he got up and fled for his life to Beersheba in Judah, leaving his servant there,
After walking a day’s journey in the wilderness, I came to a small tree called a pine tree and sat there praying for death, saying, O Lord, that’s all. Take my life, for I am inferior to my ancestors.
He lay under the Luo Teng tree and fell asleep. An angel patted him and said, “Get up and eat.”.
He looked and saw a bottle of water and charcoal baked cake next to his head. He ate and drank it, but still lay down.
The angel of the Lord came and patted him the second time, saying, Get up and eat. Because you have a long way to go.
He got up and ate and drank. With the power of this food, he walked forty days and nights until he arrived at the mountain of God, which is Mount Horeb.
He entered a hole there and lived there. The word of the Lord came to him, saying, Elijah, what are you doing here.
He said, I am greatly zealous for the Lord God of hosts. Because the Israelites have broken your covenant, destroyed your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword, leaving me alone. They will also seek my life.
The Lord said, Come out and stand on the mountain before me. At that time, the Lord passed by and there was a strong wind before him, breaking mountains and stones, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind and earthquake, the Lord was not among them.
After an earthquake, there is a fire, and the Lord is not in the fire. There is a faint sound after the fire.
When Elijah heard this, he covered his face with a cloak and came out to stand at the entrance of the cave. A voice said to him, Elijah, what are you doing here.
He said, I am greatly zealous for the Lord God of hosts. Because the Israelites have broken your covenant, destroyed your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword, leaving me alone. They will also seek my life.
The Lord said to him, “Go back and go from the wilderness to Damascus.”. When they arrive there, they shall anoint Hazael as king of Aram,
And he anointed Jehu the son of Ningshi as king of Israel, and he anointed Elisha the son of Shaphat the Abel Mehorah as a prophet to succeed you.
Those who will evade the sword of Hazael will be killed by Jehu. Those who evade the sword of Jehu will be killed by Elisha.
But I have left for myself seven thousand people among the Israelites, who have not bowed to Baal or kissed him.
So Elijah left there and found Elisha, the son of Shaphat, plowing the land. There are twelve pairs of cows ahead of him, and I am driving the twelfth pair myself. Elijah went to him and draped his coat over him.
Elisha left the ox and ran to Elijah, saying, “Please allow me to kiss my parents first, and then I will follow you.”. Elijah said to him, “Go back, what have I done to you?”?
Elisha left him and went back, slaughtering a pair of oxen. He cooked the meat in a set of oxen for the people to eat, and then stood up to follow Elijah and serve him.
