st Kings _Chapter 17
Elijah the Tisbite, who was a resident of Gilead, said to Ahab, As the living Lord, the God of Israel, whom I serve, I swear that if I do not pray in these years, there will be no dew or rain.
The word of the Lord came to Elijah, saying,
You leave here and head east, hiding by the Kirib River on the east side of the Jordan River.
You must drink the water from that stream, and I have instructed the crows to feed you there.
So Elijah went and lived by the Creek Kirib on the east side of the Jordan River, according to the word of the Lord.
The crow will bring him bread and meat sooner or later, and he will also drink the water from the stream.
After a few days, the stream dried up because the rain did not fall on the ground.
The word of the Lord came to him, saying,
Get up and go to Zarepha in Sidon (which is the same as Luke 4:26), and stay there. I have instructed a widow there to provide for you.
Elijah stood up and went to Zarepha. When they arrived at the city gate, they saw a widow picking firewood there. Elijah called out to her, saying, “Please take some water from a vessel and give it to me to drink.”.
When she went to fetch water, Elijah called out to her again and said, “Please bring me some bread.”.
She said, As the living Lord your God lives, I have no bread, only a handful of flour in the altar, and only a little oil in the jar. I’m looking for two sticks now, and I’m going home to make pancakes for me and my son. We eat it, let’s die.
Elijah said to her, “Do not be afraid.”. You can do as you said. Just make a small cake for me first and bring it to me, then make a cake for you and your son.
For thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: The flour in the altar shall not be reduced, and the oil in the pitcher shall not be short, until the day when the Lord causes rain to fall on the earth.
The woman did as Elijah had said. She, her family, and Elijah ate for many days.
The flour in the jar does not decrease, and the oil in the jar does not run short, just as the Lord said through Elijah.
After this, the woman who was the head of the household had her son sick. Being seriously ill, resulting in a lack of breath in the body.
The woman said to Elijah, “Man of God, what have I to do with you?”? Have you come to me to make God remember my sins, so that my son may die?
Elijah said to her, ‘Give your son to me.’. Elijah took the child from the woman’s embrace, carried it to the tower where she lived, and placed it on his own bed,
And he called upon the Lord, saying, O Lord my God, have you brought evil upon this widow, that her son may die, as I sojourn in her house?
Elijah lay on the child three times and called upon the Lord, saying, O Lord my God, let the soul of this child return into his body.
The Lord answered Elijah’s words, and the child’s soul returned to his body, and he came to life.
Elijah took the child down from the upstairs and handed it over to his mother in the house, saying, “See, your son is alive.”.
The woman said to Elijah, “Now I know that you are a man of God, and the words spoken by the Lord through your mouth are true.”.
