st Kings _Chapter 3

Solomon married Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh’s daughter as his wife. He took her into the city of David until he finished building his own palace, the temple of the Lord, and the walls around Jerusalem.

In those days, the people continued to offer sacrifices at the high places, because a temple had not yet been built for the name of the Lord.

Solomon loved the Lord and followed the laws of his father David, but still offered sacrifices and burned incense in the high places.

King Solomon went up to Gibeon to offer sacrifices. Because there was a great high altar there, on which he offered a thousand sacrifices as a burnt offering.

In Gibeon, in a night dream, the Lord appeared to Solomon and said to him, “What do you wish me to give you?”. You can ask.

Solomon said, “Your servant David, my father, walked before you with honesty, righteousness, and uprightness of heart. Show him great grace and preserve great favor, giving him a son to sit on his throne, just as it is today.”.

O Lord my God, now you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am a young child and don’t know how to get in and out.

The servant resides among the people you have chosen, who are countless and numerous.

So please give me wisdom to judge your people and distinguish right from wrong. Otherwise, who can judge these numerous people?

Solomon was pleased by the Lord because he asked for this matter.

God said to him, “Since you have asked for this matter, do not seek life or wealth for yourself, nor do you seek to destroy the lives of your enemies, but rather seek wisdom to hear the case.”,

I will answer your request and give you wisdom and wisdom, so that there is no one like you before you and no one like you after you.

What you did not ask for, I will also give you wealth and honor, so that there will be no king like you in the days of your life.

If you follow your father David and walk in my way, keeping my laws and commandments, I will make you live long.

Solomon woke up, but it was a dream. He returned to Jerusalem and stood in front of the Ark of the Lord, offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, and making a feast for all his servants.

One day, two prostitutes came and stood in front of the king.

One said, “My lord, I live with this woman in the same room.”. When she was in the room, I gave birth to a boy.

On the third day after I gave birth, this woman also gave birth. We live together, and apart from the two of us, there is no one else in the room.

At night, while the woman was sleeping, she crushed her child to death.

She woke up in the middle of the night and took my child from beside me while I was asleep, placing it in her arms and her dead child in my arms.

When the day was about to break, I got up to nurse my child, but unexpectedly, the child died. At dawn, I carefully examined and found that it was not the child I had given birth to.

The woman said, Otherwise, the living child is mine, and the dead child is yours. The woman said, Otherwise, the dead child is yours, and the living child is mine. They argued so in front of the king.

The king said, This woman says that the living child is mine and the dead child is yours, but that woman says otherwise, the dead child is yours and the living child is mine,

And he commanded, Bring a sword. People bring knives.

The king said, Cut the living child in half, give half to that woman, and half to this woman.

The mother of the living child felt anxious for her own child and said, “Please, my lord, give the living child to that woman and never kill her.”. The woman said, This child is neither mine nor yours, chop him up.

The king said, Give the living child to this woman and do not kill her. This woman is truly his mother.

When all Israel heard the king’s judgment, they all feared him. Because he saw the wisdom of God in his heart, capable of judging cases.
