Samuel’s note_Chapter 16

David had just passed the mountaintop when he saw Zebalah, a servant of Mephibosheth, bringing two prepared donkeys, carrying two hundred loaves of bread, one hundred grape cakes, one hundred summer fruit cakes, and a skin of wine to meet him.

The king asked Ziba, “What do you mean by bringing these?”? Zeba said, Donkeys are for the king’s family to ride. Noodles and summer fruit cakes are for young people to eat. Wine is for those who are tired in the wilderness to drink.

The king asked, “Where is your master’s son?”? Ziba answered the king, saying, He is still in Jerusalem, because he said, Today the Israelites will return my father’s kingdom to me.

The king said to Ziba, “Everything that belongs to Mephibosheth is yours.”. Zeba said, I bow down to my lord the king, and may I find favor in your sight.

King David arrived at Bahurim and saw a man named Shimei, the son of Kirah, a member of the Saul tribe. He cursed as he walked,

And he took stones and struck down King David and his servants. All the people and warriors are on the king’s side.

Shimei cursed and said, “You bloody villain, go, go.”.

You shed the blood of all Saul’s family and succeeded him as king. The Lord has put this sin on you and handed over this kingdom to your son Absalom. Now you take the blame on yourself because you are a bleeding person.

Abishai, the son of Zeruiah, said to the king, Shall this dead dog curse my lord the king? Please allow me to go over and cut off his head.

The king said, What have I to do with you, son of Zeruiah? He cursed because the Lord commanded him, saying, Curse David. So, who dares say why you’re doing this?

David said to Abishai and all his servants, “My biological son is still seeking my life, let alone this Benjamite.”? Let him curse. Because this is what the Lord has commanded him.

Or perhaps the Lord will show mercy to me when he sees my trouble and curses me today.

So David and his men walked forward. Shimei was walking on the slope opposite David, cursing and using stones to chop him down and soil to lift him up.

The king and his companions arrived at a place exhausted and rested there.

Absalom and all Israel came to Jerusalem. Ahithophel also came with him.

David’s friend Hushai the Archite went to see Absalom and said to him, May the king live forever. May the king live forever.

Absalom asked Hushai, “Is this your kindness to a friend?”? Why not go with your friends?

Hushai said to Absalom, “No, I will submit to the Lord, this people, and all Israel, whom they have chosen, and live with him.”.

Furthermore, who should I serve? Isn’t it the son of the former king? As I serve your father, so will I serve you.

Absalom said to Ahithophel, ‘Give us some advice on what we should do.’.

And Ahithophel said to Absalom, You may approach the concubines left by your father to guard the palace. All Israel heard that your father despised you, and the hands of all those who submitted to you became even stronger.

So he set up a tent for Absalom on the flat roof of the palace. Absalom was close to his father’s concubines in front of all Israel.

At that time, Ahithophel’s ideas were like asking God’s words. This is all the advice he gave to David in the past and to Absalom today.
