The Philistines gathered their army to Aph. The Israelites camped by the spring of Jezreel.

The leaders of the Philistines led their armies, one hundred or one thousand, advancing in order. David and his followers followed behind with Achish.

The leaders of the Philistines said, What are these Hebrews doing here? And Achish said to them, Isn’t this David, the servant of King Saul of Israel? He has been with me for some years now. Since he surrendered to me to this day, I have never seen him at fault.

The leaders of the Philistines were angry with Achish and said to him, “Bring this man back to the place where you have placed him. Do not let him go to war with us, or he may become our enemy in battle.”. What did he use to reconcile with his master? Isn’t it using the heads of us people?

Isn’t it not this David who the women of Israel once danced and sang, saying, Saul killed a thousand, and David killed ten thousand?

Achish called David and said to him, “As the Lord lives, you are upright.”. You follow me in and out of the military, I think you are very good. Since you joined me, I have never seen any fault in you. But the leaders are not pleased with you.

Now you can return in peace, so that the leaders of the Philistines will not be pleased with you.

David said to Achish, “What have I done?”? Since my servant came to you, to this day, have you found out what fault I have committed to prevent me from attacking the enemy of my lord the king?

And Achish said, I know that you are a good man in my sight, like an angel of God. But the leaders of the Philistines said, This man shall not go to war with us.

Therefore, you and your followers, the servants of your own master, must wake up tomorrow morning and return at dawn.

So David and his men got up in the morning and returned to the land of the Philistines. The Philistines also went up to Jezreel.
