David left there and fled to the cave of Adulam. His brothers and all his father’s family heard it and went down to him.

All those in distress, those in debt, and those in distress gathered together to David. David became their leader, with about four hundred people following him.

David went from there to Mizpah in Moab and said to the king of Moab, “Please allow my parents to come and stay with you until I know what God will do for me.”.

David brought his parents to the king of Moab. How many days did David stay in the fortress, and how many days did his parents stay with the king of Moab.

Saul said, Son of Ahitub, listen to my words. He replied, Lord, I am here.

Saul said to him, “Why have you formed an alliance with Jesse’s son to harm me? You have given him food and a sword, and you have asked God for his help, so that he may rise up and conspire against me, just as it is today.”.

And Ahimelech answered the king, saying, Who among the king’s servants is more faithful than David? He is the son-in-law and staff officer of the king, and is esteemed in the royal family.

Did I only ask God for him today? It’s definitely not like that. King, do not blame me and my father’s entire family. Because of this matter, no matter how big or small, the servant knows.

The king said, Ahimelech, you and all your father’s family are worthy of death.

The king commanded the guards on both sides, saying, Go and kill the priests of the Lord. Because they helped David and knew that David was fleeing, but they did not tell me. But Saul’s officials refused to reach out and kill the priests of the Lord.

The king commanded Duoyi, saying, Go and kill the priests. So Doeg the Edomite went and killed the priests, and on that day he killed eighty-five people wearing fine linen ephods.

And he used the sword to destroy all the men and women, children, sucklings, oxen, sheep, and donkeys in the priestly city of Nob.

Ahimelech, the son of Ahitub, had a son named Abiathar who fled to David.

Abiathar told David about the killing of the Lord’s priests by Saul.

David said to Abiathar, “On that day, when I saw Doeg the Edomite there, I knew that he would tell Saul.”. Your father’s entire family died because of me.
