Samuel I_Chapter 26
The Sephorites came to Gibeah and said to Saul, “Isn’t David hiding on Mount Hakilah in front of the wilderness?”?
So Saul stood up and led three thousand selected soldiers from the Israelites down to the wilderness of Ziph to search for David there.
Saul camped on the road on Mount Hakilah in front of the wilderness. David lived in the wilderness and heard that Saul came to the wilderness to pursue him,
So he sent someone to inquire and found out that Saul had indeed arrived.
David got up and went to the place where Saul was camping, and saw where Saul and his commander Abner’s son Abner were sleeping. Saul slept in the supply camp, and the people camped around him.
David said to Ahimelech the Hittite and Abishai the brother of Joab, the son of Zeruiah, who will come with me to the camp of Saul. Abishai said, I will go down with you.
So David and Abishai went to the people at night and saw Saul sleeping in the camp. His gun is beside his head, stuck on the ground. Abner and the people slept around him.
Abishai said to David, “Now that God has given your enemy into your hands, please allow me to pierce him to the ground with a spear, and it will be done with one thrust without further thrust.”.
David said to Abishai, Do not kill him. Who has reached out his hand to harm the anointed one of the Lord without guilt?
David also said, As the Lord lives, I swear that he will either be struck by the Lord, or his death will come, or he will go to war and die.
I dare not stretch out my hand against the anointed one of the Lord before him. Now you can bring the gun and water bottle next to his head, and we’ll go.
David took a spear and a water bottle from Saul’s head, and the two of them left. No one saw, no one knew, and no one woke up. They both fell asleep because the Lord had caused them to sleep heavily.
David went over there and stood far away on the mountaintop, far away from them.
David called out to the people and Abner’s son Abner, saying, Abner, why did you not agree? Abner said, Who are you. How dare you call the king?
David said to Abner, Aren’t you a warrior? Who in Israel can compare to you? Why did you not protect the king and your lord when someone from the people came in to kill him?
It’s not good of you to do this. As the living Lord lives, you are all worthy of death. Because you have not protected your Lord, the anointed one of the Lord. Now take a look at where the gun and water bottle next to the king’s head are.
Saul recognized David’s voice and said, “My son David, is this your voice?”? David said, Lord my king, it is my voice.
And he said, what did I do. What’s wrong with me. How did my lord pursue his servant?
May my lord the king listen to my servant’s words, and if the Lord inspires you to attack me, may the Lord accept sacrifices. If a person inspires you, let them be cursed before the Lord. Because he is driving me away now and does not allow me to have a share in the inheritance of the Lord, saying, Go and serve other gods.
Now I beg the king not to let my blood flow far from the Lord. The king of Israel came out to search for a flea, just like a man hunting a partridge on a mountain.
Saul said, I am guilty. My son David, you may come back, for today you see my life as precious. I will no longer harm you. I am a confused person, I was greatly wrong.
David said, “The king’s spear is here. You can command a servant to come and take it.”.
Today the Lord has given the king into my hand, but I refuse to extend my hand against the Lord’s anointed one. The Lord will repay everyone according to their righteousness and honesty.
I value your life today, and may the Lord also value my life and save me from all my troubles.
Saul said to David, “My son David, may you be blessed.”. You will do great things, and you will also triumph. So David set out and Saul returned to his place.
