Isaiah_Chapter 22
On the implied meaning of the valley of vision. What’s causing you, the whole city, to go up to the rooftops?
You are a city full of shouting, a city full of noise, a joyful city. Those who are killed in your midst are not killed by the sword, nor are they killed in battle.
All your officials fled together, bound by archers. Everything found among you is bound together. They were originally fleeing to faraway places.
So I said, if you don’t look at me in the blink of an eye, I will cry bitterly. Do not comfort me with all your might because of the destruction of my daughter.
For the Lord, the Lord of hosts, has caused chaos, trampling, and trouble in the valley of vision. The city was breached, and mournful cries reached the mountains.
Elam carried the quiver, as well as the charioteers and cavalry, and Kir uncovered the shield.
Your beautiful valley is filled with chariots, and there are also cavalry arranged in front of the city gate.
He removed Judah’s cover. That day, you looked up at the weapons in the forest warehouse.
You see many breaches in the city of David, so you gather water from the lower pool.
Count the houses in Jerusalem, demolish them, and repair the city walls.
Dig a collection pool between the two city walls to hold the water from the old pool. But I do not look up to the one who did this, nor do I consider those who have determined this from ancient times.
On that day, the Lord, the Lord of hosts, made people cry and mourn, with their heads bare and their bodies covered in linen.
Unexpectedly, people are overjoyed and happy, slaughtering cows and sheep, eating meat and drinking alcohol, saying, Let’s eat and drink, because we will die tomorrow.
The Lord of hosts himself has inspired me, saying, This iniquity shall not be forgiven until your death. This is what the Lord, the Lord of hosts, has said.
This is what the Lord God of hosts says: Go and see Shebna, the ruler of the treasury, and say to him,
What are you doing here? Who is there that carves a grave here? He carves a grave for himself at a high place, and carves a place for himself in the rock.
See, the Lord will be like a strong man, wrapping you tightly and throwing you away with all his might.
He will roll you into a ball and throw you on a wide ground, like throwing a ball. The shame of your lord’s family will sit in the chariot of your glory there, and you will die there.
I will drive you out of your official position. You must withdraw from your original position.
On that day, I will call my servant Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah.
Put your robe on him, tie your belt tightly, and hand over your power to him. He will be the resident of Jerusalem and the father of the house of Judah.
I will place the key to David’s house on his shoulder. He opens, no one can close. He closes, no one can open it.
I will secure him like a nail in a strong place. He will be the throne of glory for his father’s family.
All the glory of his father’s family, including his children and descendants, is hung on him like all small vessels, from cups to wine bottles.
The Lord of hosts has said, On that day, the nails that are nailed to a strong place will be crushed and cut to the ground. The heavy burden hanging on it will be cut off. Because this is what the Lord has said.
