圣经After this, the Lord spoke to Abram in a vision, saying, “Abram, do not be afraid; I am your shield, and I will reward you greatly.”.
Abram said, Lord Jehovah, since I have no children, what else do you give me? And the person who will bear my family’s inheritance is Eliezer from Damascus.
Abram also said, You did not give me a son. The person born into my family is my heir.
And the Lord said to him, This man shall not be your heir. Your own offspring will become your heir.
So he led him outside and said, “Look up to heaven and count the stars. Can you count them?”? And he said to him, Your descendants will be like this.
Abram believed in the Lord, and the Lord took it as his righteousness.
And the Lord said to him, I am the Lord, who led you out of Ur in Chaldea to give you this land as an inheritance.
Abram said, Lord Jehovah, how can I know that I will inherit this land?
He said, Take me a three year old cow, a three year old female goat, a three year old male sheep, a spotted dove, and a young pigeon.
Abram took these and split them in half, with the other half facing each other, except for the birds that did not split.
A bird of prey came down and fell on the flesh of the dead animal, and Abram scared it away.
As the sun was setting, Abram fell into a deep sleep. Suddenly, an astonishing darkness fell on him.
The Lord said to Abram, Be certain that your descendants will sojourn in another land and serve the people of that land. The people of that land will endure them for four hundred years.
And I will punish the country that they will serve, and later they will come out with a lot of wealth.
But you shall enjoy a long life and return to your ancestors in peace and be buried.
In the fourth generation, they will return to this place, because the sins of the Amorites have not yet been filled.
At sunset, it was dark, but unexpectedly, a smoking stove and a burning torch passed through the meat pieces.
On that day, the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, I have given it to your descendants, from the river of Egypt to the river Euphrates,
They are the Kenites, the Kenizites, and the Carmonites,
The Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephains,
The land of the Amorites, Canaanites, Gegashites, and Jebusites.
