Jeremiah_Chapter 41
In the seventh month, Ishmael the son of Netaniah, the son of Elishama, the king’s minister, came to Mizpah with ten men to meet Gedaliah the son of Ahikam. They ate together in Misba.
Ishmael, the son of Netaniah, and the ten men who came with him rose up and killed Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, with the sword, whom the king of Babylon had appointed as the governor of all the land.
Ishmael also killed all the Jews and the Chaldean soldiers who were found in Mizpah and Gedaliah.
He killed Gitalia, no one knows.
On the second day, eighty people came from Shechem, Shiloh, and Samaria, shaved off their beards, torn their clothes, and cut their bodies. They held grain offerings and frankincense in their hands to bring to the temple of the Lord.
Ishmael, the son of Netaniah, went out of Mizpah to meet them and wept as he went. And when he met them, he said to them, Come and see Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam.
When they arrived in the city, Ishmael the son of Netaniah and his men killed them and threw them into a pit.
But ten of them said to Ishmael, Do not kill us, for we have a lot of barley, wheat, oil, and honey hidden in the field. So he stopped and did not kill them among his brothers.
Ishmael threw the capital of the slain person’s body into a pit next to Italy. This pit was dug by King Asa in the past for fear of King Bashar of Israel. Ishmael, the son of Netaniah, filled the pit with those who had been killed.
Ishmael took away the remaining people of Mizpah, including the princesses and all the people who were still living in Mizpah, who were handed over by Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, to Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam. Ishmael, the son of Netaniah, captured them and went to the children of Ammon.
Johanan the son of Kareah and all the commanders of the army who were with him heard of all the evil that Ishmael the son of Netaniah had done,
And he led the people to fight against Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and found him by the great water of Gibeon.
All the people who were with Ishmael rejoiced when they saw Johanan the son of Kareah and the commanders of the army who were with him.
So all the people that Ishmael had taken captive from Mizpah turned around and returned to Johanan, the son of Kareah.
Ishmael, the son of Netaniah, and eight others escaped from the hands of Johanan and fled to the children of Ammon.
After Ishmael, the son of Netaniah, killed Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, and abducted all the remaining people, soldiers, women, children, and eunuchs from Mizpah to Gibeon, Johanan, the son of Kareah, and all the commanders of the army with him recaptured them,
Bring them to the residence of Kiroth Kinhan near Bethlehem to enter Egypt.
Because Ishmael, the son of Netaniah, killed Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, who was appointed as the governor of Babylon, Johanan feared the Chaldeans.
