Jeremiah_Chapter 26
When Jehoiakim the son of Josiah the king of Judah began to reign, these words came to Jeremiah from the Lord:,
This is what the Lord says: Stand in the courtyard of the Lord’s house and say to all the people of Judah who come to worship in the Lord’s house, ‘Do not cut off a word from all the words I command you.’.
Or perhaps they will listen and turn each person away from the evil way, so that I may regret not bringing upon them the calamity that I wanted to do because of their evil deeds.
You shall say to them, This is what the Lord says: If you do not listen to me and do not walk in the law that I have set before you,
Not listening to the words of my servants the prophets whom I sent to you from early morning (yet you did not listen),
I will make this temple like Shiloh, and make this city cursed by all the nations on earth.
The priests, prophets, and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the temple of the Lord.
After Jeremiah had finished speaking all the words that the Lord had commanded him to say to the people, the priests, prophets, and all the people came and captured him, saying, You will surely die.
Why do you prophesy in the name of the Lord, saying that this temple will be like Shiloh, and this city will become desolate without any inhabitants? So all the people gathered in the house of the Lord to Jeremiah.
When the leaders of Judah heard this, they went from the king’s palace to the house of the Lord and sat at the new entrance of the house of the Lord.
The priest and the prophet said to the leaders and all the people, This man is worthy of death. Because he prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your own ears.
Jeremiah said to all the leaders and the people, ‘The Lord has sent me to prophesy against this temple and this city, saying all these words that you have heard.’.
Now correct your actions and actions, obey the word of the Lord your God, and he will repent and not bring the calamity he has spoken to you.
As for me, I am in your hands. Treat me as you see fit and right.
But you must know for sure that if you put me to death, you will bring innocent blood to you, this city, and its inhabitants. For the Lord has indeed sent me to you, to proclaim all these words in your ears.
And the leaders and all the people said to the priests and prophets, This man is not worthy of death, because he speaks to us in the name of the Lord our God
And a few elders of the kingdom rose up and said to the gathered people,
In the day of King Hezekiah of Judah, Micah the Amorite prophesied to all the people of Judah, saying, This is what the Lord of hosts has said: Zion will be plowed like a field. Jerusalem will become a pile of ruins. The mountains of this temple will be like the high places of the jungle.
Did King Hezekiah of Judah and all the people of Judah put him to death? Isn’t Hezekiah fearing the Lord and pleading for his favor? The Lord regretted not bringing the disaster he had spoken to them. If we put this person to death, we will do great evil and harm our own lives.
Another man prophesied in the name of the Lord, Uriah son of Shemaiah from Kiriath Jearim. He prophesied and attacked this city and this land according to all the words of Jeremiah.
When King Jehoiakim and all his warriors and leaders heard Uriah’s words, the king wanted to put him to death. When Uriah heard this, he was afraid and fled to Egypt.
King Jehoiakim sent Elinathan, the son of Achbor, with a few men to Egypt.
They brought Uriah out of Egypt and brought him to King Jehoiakim. The king killed him with a knife and threw his body into the graves of commoners.
However, Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, protected Jeremiah and did not hand him over to the people to be put to death.
