Chronicles of the Past Dynasties_Chapter 15

David built a palace for himself in the city of David and prepared a place for the ark of God, setting up a tent.

At that time David said, No one shall carry the ark of God except the Levites. For the Lord has chosen them to carry the Ark of God and serve him forever.

David gathered all Israel to Jerusalem to bring the ark of the Lord to the place he had prepared.

David also gathered the descendants of Aaron and the Levites.

Among the Kohathites, there were the chief Uriel and one hundred and twenty of his brothers.

Among the descendants of Merari, there were two hundred and twenty elders Asaiah and his brothers.

Among the descendants of Gershon were Joel, the chief of the clan, and one hundred and thirty of his brothers.

Among the descendants of Elizaphan, there were two hundred brothers, Shemaiah the chief of the clan.

Among the descendants of Hebron, there were Eliel the chief and eighty of his brothers.

Among the descendants of Uzziel, there were the chief Aminadab and one hundred and twelve of his brothers.

David summoned the priests Zadok and Abiathar, as well as the Levites Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab,

And he said to them, You are the heads of the Levites, and you and your brothers should purify yourselves, so that you may bring the ark of the Lord God of Israel to the place I have prepared.

Because you did not carry this ark before and sought the Lord our God according to the law, he punished us by breaking through.

So the priests and Levites purified themselves to bring up the ark of the Lord God of Israel.

The sons of Levi carried the ark of God with their poles and shoulders, as the Lord had commanded through Moses.

David ordered the heads of the Levites to send their singing brothers to make music with harps, lyres, and cymbals, and to sing loudly and joyfully.

So the Levites sent Heman, the son of Joel, and Asaph, the son of Berechiah among their brothers, as well as Ethan, the son of Kushaiah, the son of their brother Merari.

Next to them were their brothers Zechariah, Benjazeel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Uni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattathiah, Eliphelehu, Michniah, and the gatekeepers Obed-edom and Jeri.

So Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, who were sent to sing, struck bronze cymbals and made a loud noise.

Send Zechariah, Jazziel, Shimeramo, Jehiel, Uni, Eliab, Maaseiah, and Benaiah to play with instruments, using female voices.

And he appointed Mattathiah, Eliphelehu, Micaniah, Obededom, Jeli, and Azazeiah as the leaders to play the harp, calling the eighth.

Kenaniah, the chief of the Levites, was the leader of the singers and taught them how to sing, because he was proficient in this matter.

Berechiah and Elkanah were gatekeepers in front of the ark.

The priests Shebaniah, Jehoshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer blew trumpets in front of the ark of God. Obededom and Jehiah were also gatekeepers in front of the ark.

So David, the elders of Israel, and the captains of thousands went and brought up the ark of the Lord with joy from the house of Obededom.

God blessed the Levites who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and they offered seven bulls and seven rams.

David and the Levites who carried the ark, as well as Kenaniah, the leader of the singers, and the singers, were all dressed in fine linen robes. David was also wearing a linen ephod.

So all Israel brought up the Ark of the Lord with shouting, playing the horn, trumpets, cymbals, lyres, harps, and loud sounds.

When the Ark of the Lord entered the city of David, Michal, Saul’s daughter, looked out of the window and saw King David dancing enthusiastically. Her heart despised him.
