After Abimelech, Torah, the son of Puah, the son of Dodo, an Issachar, rose up and saved the Israelites. He lives in Shamir in the mountains of Ephraim.

After him, Jair the Gilead rose up and judged Israel for twenty-two years.

He has thirty sons, riding thirty donkeys and foals. They had thirty cities called Havothjair, all of which are in the land of Gilead to this day.

Jair died and was buried in Carmen.

The Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord and went to serve the Baals and Ashtaroth, as well as the gods of Aram, Sidon, Moab, the Ammonites, and the Philistines. They abandoned the Lord and did not serve him

The anger of the Lord was raging against the Israelites, and he handed them over to the hands of the Philistines and the Ammonites.

The Lord said to the Israelites, Have I not saved you from the Egyptians, Amorites, Ammonites, and Philistines?

The Sidonians, Amalekites, and Maonites have all oppressed you. You cry to me, and I will save you from their hands.

You have abandoned me and served other gods. So I won’t save you anymore.

Go and pray to the chosen God. When you encounter urgent difficulties, let him save you.

The Israelites said to the Lord, “We have sinned; let us be treated as you please.”. Please save us today.

The Israelites removed the foreign gods from among them and served the Lord. The Lord was troubled in his heart because of the suffering of the Israelites.

At that time, the children of Ammon gathered and camped in Gilead. The Israelites also gathered and camped in Mizpah.

The people of Gilead and their leaders discussed with each other, saying, Whoever can go first to attack the Ammonites will be the leader of all the inhabitants of Gilead.
