Shi Shi Ji_Chapter 1

After Joshua’s death, the Israelites asked the Lord, “Who among us should go up first to attack the Canaanites and fight against them?”.

The Lord said, Judah should go up first, and I have given the land into his hand.

Judah said to his brother Simeon, “Come with me to the land obtained by lot, so that we may fight against the Canaanites.”. In the future, I will also go with you to the land you have obtained by casting lots. So Simeon went with him.

Judah went up and the Lord handed over the Canaanites and Perizzites into their hands. They killed ten thousand people in comparison.

And there they met Adonibezer, and fought against him, and defeated the Canaanites and Berezites.

Adonibezer fled. They chased after him, caught him, and cut off his thumb and foot.

The Jews attacked Jerusalem and captured it, killing the people inside with the sword and setting it on fire.

Later, the Jews went down and fought against the Canaanites who lived in the mountains, the Negev, and the highlands.

The Jews went to attack the Canaanites who were living in Hebron and killed Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai. Hebron’s former name was Kiriath Aba.

They went there to attack the residents of Dibi. Dibi’s former name was Kiriath Sepher.

Caleb said, Whoever can attack Kiriath Sepher and take the city, I will give him my daughter Achsah as his wife.

Othniel, the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s brother, took the city, and Caleb gave him his daughter Absa as his wife.

The Lord was with Judah, and Judah drove out the inhabitants of the mountains, but could not drive out the inhabitants of the plains, because they had iron chariots.

The Israelites gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses had said. And Caleb drove out the three chiefs of the Anak tribe from there.

The Benjamin people did not drive out the Jebusites who lived in Jerusalem. The Jebusites still reside with the Benjamites in Jerusalem to this day.

The Joseph family also went up to attack Bethel. The Lord is with them.

Joseph’s family sent people to spy on Bethel. The city was originally named Ruth.

The spies saw a man coming out of the city and said to him, “Please show us the way into the city, and we will be kind to you.”.

The man showed them the way into the city, and they killed the residents with the sword, but let the man and his whole family go.

The man went to the land of the Hittites and built a city named Luz. That city is still called this name to this day.

Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of Bethshan and its villages, Tanah and its villages, Dor and its villages, Ebraim and its villages, and Megiddo and its villages. But the Canaanites insisted on living in those places.

When Israel became strong, they forced the Canaanites to work hard and did not completely drive them out.

Ephraim did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer. So the Canaanites continued to live in Gezer, between Ephraim.

Zebulun did not drive out the residents of Keelen and Nahara. So the Canaanites continued to live among Zebulun and became slaves.

Asher did not drive out the residents of Achos and Sidon, the residents of Aherah and Achzil, the residents of Hebah, Apheg, and Rehab.

So Asher stayed among the Canaanites who had not been driven out of the land.

Naphtali did not drive out the residents of Bethshemesh and Bethanah, so he stayed among the Canaanites in that land. However, the residents of Beth Shemesh and Beth Anah became servants of suffering.

The Amorites forced the Danes to live in the mountains and did not allow them to go down to the plains.

But the Amorites insisted on staying in Mount Horeb, Aijalon, and Shabin. However, the family of Joseph overcame them and made them slaves.

The boundary of the Amorites is from the slopes of Achrabinpo and from Selah.
