nd Kings _Chapter 7
Elisha said, “Listen to the word of the Lord. This is what the Lord says: Around this time tomorrow, at the entrance of Samaria, one shekel of silver shall be sold for one shekel of fine flour, and two shekels of barley shall be sold for one shekel of silver.”.
A commander who supported the king said to the man of God, “Even if the Lord opens the window of heaven, this cannot happen.”. Elisha said, You will see with your own eyes, but you will not eat.
There were four lepers growing up at the city gate, and they said to each other, Why are we sitting here waiting to die?
If we say, go to the city. If there is a famine in the city, one will die there. If you sit still here, you must be dead. Come on, let’s surrender to the army of the Arameans. If they keep us alive, we will live. If you kill us, then die.
At dusk, they got up and headed towards the camp of the Arameans. Arriving at the camp, there was no one there.
Because the Lord made the army of the Arameans hear the sound of chariots and horses, it is the voice of a great army. They said to each other, “This must be the king of Israel bribing the kings of the Hittites and the kings of the Egyptians to attack us.”.
So, at dusk, they got up and ran away, leaving their tents, horses, donkeys, and camp as usual, only focused on escaping for their lives.
The lepers who grew up went to the camp, entered the tent, ate and drank, and took out gold, silver, and clothes from it to collect. Upon returning, he entered another tent and took out his belongings to collect.
At that time, they said to each other, ‘What we have done is not good.’. Today is a day of good news, yet we remain silent. If we wait until dawn, sin will come upon us. Come on, let’s report to the Wang family.
They went to call the gatekeeper and told them, ‘We have arrived at the camp of the Arameans, and there is no one there or anyone speaking. Only horses and donkeys are tied up, and the tents remain the same.’.
The gatekeeper called for all the gatekeepers, and they went in to report to the king’s family.
The king stood up at night and said to his servants, ‘I will tell you what the Arameans have done to us.’. They knew that we were hungry, so they left the camp and ambushed in the fields, saying, When the Israelites left the city, we captured them alive and were able to enter the city.
A servant said to the king, “Why don’t we use five horses from the remaining horses in the city (they are like the remaining Israelites in the city, almost extinct) and send someone to spy on them.”.
So he took two chariots and horses, and the king sent messengers to pursue the army of Aram, saying, Go and spy.
They pursued to the Jordan River and saw that all the way was covered with clothes and utensils discarded by the Arameans during their sprint. The messenger returned and reported to the king.
So the people went out and plundered the camp of the Arameans. So one shekel of silver was sold for one shekel of fine flour, and two shekels of barley were sold for one shekel of silver, as the Lord had said.
The king sent the commander who supported him to suppress him at the city gate, and everyone trampled on him there, and he died, just as the man of God said when the king came down to see him.
The man of God once said to the king, Around this time tomorrow, at the entrance of Samaria, two measures of barley shall be sold for one shekel of silver, and one measure of flour shall also be sold for one shekel of silver.
The commander said to the man of God, Even if the Lord opens the windows of heaven, this cannot happen. The man of God said, You will see with your own eyes, but you will not eat.
This statement indeed came true for him. Because everyone trampled on him at the city gate, and he died.
