Joshua_Chapter 5

The kings of the Amorites on the west bank of the Jordan River and the kings of the Canaanites by the sea heard that the Lord had dried up the waters of the Jordan River in front of the Israelites. When we went over, their hearts melted and they no longer had courage because of the Israelites.

At that time, the Lord commanded Joshua, saying, Make flint knives and circumcise the Israelites a second time.

Joshua made flint knives and circumcised the Israelites at Mount Derim.

The reason why Joshua circumcised was because all the people who came out of Egypt, including all the men who were able to fight, died on the way out of the wilderness.

Because all the people who came out were circumcised. But after leaving Egypt, all the people who were born on the way in the wilderness did not undergo circumcision.

The Israelites walked in the wilderness for forty years until all the people, including the soldiers who came out of Egypt, were destroyed because they did not obey the word of the Lord. The Lord swore to them that they would not see the land that the Lord swore to their ancestors to give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.

Their descendants, whom the Lord has raised to succeed them, have not been circumcised. Because they were not circumcised on the way, Joshua did it for them.

After all the citizens were circumcised, they stayed in their own places in the camp until they recovered.

The Lord said to Joshua, Today I have rolled away the shame of Egypt from you. Therefore, that place is called Jijia, until today (Jijia means rolling).

The Israelites camped in Gilgal. On the evening of the fourteenth day of the first month, observe the Passover in the plain of Jericho.

On the day after the Passover, they ate the produce of the land. On that day, I ate unleavened cakes and baked grains.

They ate the produce of the land, and on the second day the manna stopped, and the Israelites no longer had manna. That year, they ate the produce of the land of Canaan.

As Joshua approached Jericho, he lifted up his eyes and saw that there was a man standing opposite him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went to him and asked him, “Are you helping us?”? Is it helping our enemy?

He replied, No, I came to be the commander of the army of the Lord. Joshua fell down to the ground and worshipped, saying, What words does my lord have to give to his servants.

The commander of the army of the Lord said to Joshua, Take off your shoes from your feet, for the place where you stand is holy. Joshua followed suit.
