Jeremiah_Chapter 32
In the tenth year of King Zedekiah of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar, the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah.
At that time, the army of the king of Babylon besieged Jerusalem, and the prophet Jeremiah was imprisoned in the court of the guards, in the palace of the king of Judah.
For King Zedekiah of Judah has imprisoned him, saying, Why prophesied you, saying, Thus says the Lord, I will deliver this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will take it.
King Zedekiah of Judah will not be able to escape from the hands of the Chaldeans, but will be handed over to the king of Babylon. He will speak to each other mouth to mouth, and look at each other eye to eye.
The king of Babylon will bring Zedekiah to Babylon. Zedekiah will stay there until I visit him. Although you fought against the Chaldeans, it did not go smoothly. This is what the Lord has said.
Jeremiah said, The word of the Lord came to me, saying,
Your uncle Shallum’s son Hanamel will come to you and say, “I beg you to buy the land in Anathoth.”. Because buying this land is in line with the principle of redemption.
My uncle’s son Hanamel did indeed come to the courtyard of the guards according to the word of the Lord and said to me, “Buy the land in Anathoth, which is within the territory of Benjamin.”. Because you bought it according to the principle of inheritance, it is something you should redeem. You can buy it for yourself. I, Jeremiah, knew that this was the word of the Lord.
I bought the piece of land in Anathoth from my uncle’s son Hanamel and leveled seventeen shekels of silver for him.
I made an inscription on the deed, sealed it, and invited witnesses to come and weigh the silver with a balance.
I will make the purchase agreement as usual, which is the one that is sealed and the one that is open,
To Baruch, the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, sitting in front of Hanamel, my uncle’s son, and the witnesses of the inscription, and all the Jews who were in the guard’s court.
In front of them all, I instructed Baruch, saying,
This is what the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, says: Put these sealed and open deeds in an earthenware vessel, so that they may remain for many days.
For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: In the future, there will be people in this land who will buy houses, fields, and vineyards.
After I gave the deed of purchase to Baruch son of Neriah, I prayed to the Lord, saying,
O Lord GOD, you have created heaven and earth with your great power and outstretched arm, and there is nothing difficult for you to accomplish.
You have shown mercy to millions of people, and have avenged your father’s sins in the arms of his descendants. You are the greatest and most powerful God, and the Lord of hosts is your name.
To plan with great foresight, to act with great power, to observe all the actions of men, in order to repay them according to their deeds and the results of their deeds.
To this day, even in Israel and among others, miracles and miracles have been shown in the land of Egypt, giving oneself a good reputation, just as it is today.
With signs and wonders, a strong hand, an outstretched arm, and a great terror, I led your people Israel out of Egypt.
Give them this land, which you swore to their ancestors to give them a land flowing with milk and honey.
They entered this land and took it as an inheritance, but they did not obey your words or walk in your laws. All that you have commanded them to do, they have done nothing; therefore you have brought all these calamities upon them.
Look, the enemy has arrived and is building a fortress to capture this city. The city was also handed over to the Chaldeans who were attacking it due to the sword, famine, and plague. What you said has been accomplished, and you have also seen it.
O Lord GOD, you have said to me, ‘Buy yourself that piece of land with silver, and call witnesses.’. In fact, this city has already been handed over to the Chaldeans.
The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying,
I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there anything I cannot accomplish?
Thus says the Lord, I will deliver this city into the hands of the Chaldeans and Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and he will take it.
The Chaldeans who are attacking the city will come and set fire to this city and its houses. In this house, people burned incense to Baal and poured offerings to other gods, causing me to be angry.
The Israelites and the Jews have been doing evil in my eyes since their youth. The Israelites provoked me to anger with all the work of their hands. This is what the Lord has said.
From the day it was built until today, this city has always provoked my anger and wrath, causing me to remove it from before me.
It is because of all the evil of the Israelites and the Jews, which they and their kings, leaders, priests, prophets, and all the people of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem have done, that they have provoked me to anger.
They turned their backs towards me, not towards me. Although I have been teaching them from an early age, they do not listen and do not receive teaching,
And he set up detestable things in the temple called My Name, and defiled it.
They built the high places of Baal in the valley of Hinnom, so that their children could return to Molech through the fire. They did this detestable thing, causing Judah to fall into sin, which was not my command or my intention.
Now when it comes to this city, which you have said has been delivered into the hands of the king of Babylon by the sword, famine, and plague, thus says the Lord, the God of Israel:,
In anger, anger, and great indignation, I drove the Israelites to various countries. In the future, I will gather them from there and bring them back to this place, so that they can live in safety.
They will be my people, and I will be their God.
I will make them one heart and one way, so that they may revere me forever, and that they and their descendants may be blessed and happy,
And I will make an eternal covenant with them, and I will follow them in kindness and not leave them, and I will give them a reverence for me and not leave me.
I will rejoice in showing kindness to them, and with all my heart and soul, I will plant them in this place with sincerity and honesty.
For thus says the Lord, As I have brought all this great calamity upon this people, so will I bring upon them all the blessings that I have promised them.
You say, this land is desolate, without people or livestock, it is a land handed over to the Chaldeans. In the future, someone will buy land within this territory.
In the land of Benjamin, all around Jerusalem, the cities of Judah, the cities of the mountains, the cities of the plateau, and the cities of the south, people will buy fields with money, make an inscription on the deeds, seal the deeds, and call witnesses, for I will bring back the captives. This is what the Lord has said.
