The Book of Jonah_Chapter 2

Jonah prayed to the Lord his God in the belly of the fish,

Saying, When I am in trouble, I cry to the Lord, and you answer me. Cry from the depths of the underworld, and you listen to my voice.

You cast me into the abyss, which is the depths of the sea. The flood surrounds me. Your waves and torrential waves have overflowed over me.

I say, even though I am expelled from your sight, I will still look up to your temple.

The waters surround me, almost overwhelming me. The abyss surrounds me, and seaweed wraps around my head.

I went down to the root of the mountain. The door of the earth keeps me locked forever. O Lord my God, you have saved my life from the pit.

When my heart faints within me, I miss the Lord. My prayer enters your temple and reaches before you.

Those who believe in the God of nothingness abandon the Lord who loves them.

But I will sacrifice to you with a voice of gratitude. I will repay the wish I have made. Salvation comes from the Lord.

The Lord commanded the fish, and they vomited Jonah on the dry land.
