Lament of Jeremiah_Chapter 5

Remember, O Lord, what has happened to us, and see the humiliation we have suffered.

Our industry belongs to the foreigners. Our house belongs to outsiders.

We are orphans without a father. Our mother seems like a widow.

We have to pay to get water to drink. Our firewood is sold to us by humans.

Those who are chasing us have reached our necks. We are tired and cannot rest.

We surrendered to the Egyptians and Assyrians in order to have enough food to eat.

Our ancestors committed crimes and are no longer here. We bear their sins.

Servants rule over us, and no one saves us from their hands.

Because of the swords of the wilderness, we took risks to obtain food.

Due to hunger and heat, our skin turns black like a furnace.

The enemy defiled women in Zion and virgins in the cities of Judah.

They lifted the leader’s hand and did not respect the face of the elderly.

The young man carried a millstone, and the child stumbled while carrying firewood.

The elderly are cut off at the city gate. Young people no longer enjoy themselves.

The joy in our hearts has ceased, and dancing has turned into sorrow.

The crown fell from our heads. We have committed a crime, we are in trouble.

We feel dizzy in our hearts and our eyes are dazed by these things.

Mount Zion is desolate, with wild dogs (or foxes) walking on it.

O Lord, you endure forever. Your throne is preserved for generations to come.

Why do you always forget us. Why have you left us for so long.

O Lord, turn us back to you, and we will turn again. Please renew our days, as in ancient times.

You have completely abandoned us, and your anger is raging against us.
